You think people on here want a bunch of EDL supporters at their party?
a heads up – in reality, the wedding won’t mean the law is suspended. Whilst there will of course be more raves/attempts at raves due to the Bank Holiday, and a chance that in some areas the constabulary won’t be able to deal with them immediately, its no different from any other Bank Holiday in the UK.
I was monitoring the laws closely myself – if it was possible to hold a legal street rave I’d be encouraging the local crews within a short distance of Ipswich (perhaps in Mid Suffolk or Coastal region) to do so especially as there’s now enough kids/toddlers between belonging to crew members to argue to the local govt that it is a genuine street party.
for those who bother to read the full websites/articles rather than watch Cameroons spin (which is merely yet another attack against the public sector workers who are only enforcing laws central govt demands they do) the realities are they actively discourage all todays street parties from playing loud music for fear of “gatecrashers” (though I’m not sure how you gatecrash a party held in a public highways??) and also want them to stop by 20:00 so they remain “safe”.
…
Party was fucking decent, i didn’t see any police all day and i know it was still going at 1pm today.
we had one in the arbo on friday after noon. Was fucking awesome. police were all over it but we played what cameron had said and they left us to it. Brilliant turn out and awesome vibe. part from a couple of cunts at the end having a fight but there was only a few involved. I think we should be able to have more afternoons like that layed in the sun listening to techno 🙂
Curiously one “rave held as royal street party” in Norfolk was closed down and the rig seized, whilst another in (usually harsher) Suffolk left alone! There was also a sound system at a street party held near my friends house but it wasn’t playing any form of electronic dance music, only 80s stuff, and all the music stopped at around pub closing time.
There was absolutely jack shit on my estate though apart from more cars parked on pavements. at least people were visiting one another, but there is no way anyone would have dared to get a main road closed off, it would encounter too much opposition as its a main route to the shops. Even people what claim to be “English through and through” seem to consider their individual right to drive and consume more worthy than even genuine pride in our country and its community spirit (even if you are not a royalist!)
it all depends on how the people there react to the police presence. If every kicks off and starts swearing and throwing a hissy fit they will probs just shut it down. Our guys had a quiet word with them, asked the police what time they could play until and stuck to it. everyone went home happy
I did a bit more digging and both parties were blatantly grassed up by the locals who demanded cops shut them down. The Suffolk (Stowmarket) one only didn’t get closed down by riot cops because non-ravers sparked off a massive fight at a street party in Ipswich (about 14 miles away) and cops (understandably) thought that dealing with this was the bigger priority.
There is no longer as much of a culture of tolerance of raves in this area than SW England. Even more positive alternative culture like community gardening, environmentalism etc is treated with scepticism. There’s a lot of complex historical reasons for this but the reality is in East Anglia there’s a hard working, religious but slightly puritanical outlook amongst much of the wider community, those who have real power in society but even many young folk and to them “mindless hedonism” belongs in London or other areas.
