and a few other IEDs/incendiaries too. a while back we had some jihadis (one of whom was a doctor!) try the same stunt at an aerodrome in Scotland and blow up a car outside but not all the device went off and they were already on fire by the time they got to where there were any large number of people and a Scotsman had already headbutted one of them and rescued someone else before the fire spread so the cops (some Police Scotland did carry guns all the time although this practice is now ceasing) so they didn’t need to shoot anybody anyway
ironically in Scotland people were once notorious for fighting over religion and setting fire to things/blowing them up even more than the rest of the UK (which is 4 countries in one; it may be the only union state in Europe since the Soviet Union broke up). the country had one of the worst personal safety records in the EU (below that of the new entrant countries and some regions of the USA); they’ve somehow made it safer recently. TBH in most of Europe nowadays the cops more often leave you alone to take drugs provided you don’t get into fights or hassle other people or nick things to support you habit; and many people are perfectly happy with doing this.

Police in Edinburgh are reminding fans that a policing operation will be in place at this weekend’s Hibernian v Rangers football match to identify anyone in possession of alcohol, fireworks or flares.
Over 15,000 spectators are expected to attend at Easter Road Stadium on Sunday for the game, which kicks off at 12.45pm. Anti-social drinking in the surrounding streets will not be tolerated and officers will be enforcing the Edinburgh by-law in this regard.
In addition, police will be assisting stewards to carry out searches outside the ground to prevent illegal or prohibited items being smuggled in, including explosive or combustible materials. Fans from both sides are urged to ensure their behaviour during the match does not put themselves or others in danger.

on the same website (I do not put direct links to law enforcement sites here as they help the NCA and GCHQ do their stuff) they also report a drug dealer was caught with a fair bit of heroin but only got just over 5 and a half years (there was no mention of him being involved in other crimes than dealing which would increase the sentence) – would be the same in most other EU nations unless there is decriminalisation. Half a sentence is served in prison and the rest of it on parole. Party drug dealers get about half of this sentence even for class A although if they are not unemployed/on benefits they may get much less or not even get a prison sentence at all.
