Always good news. They would be fools to ban tourist from it in the ‘dam though. I’d imagine they would lose alot of money and tourism.

Big up for the mayor of Adam;
Yeeesssss! Fantastic news, well done that mayor! This calls for a song:
Fair play to the Dutch people for (re?)-electing a centre left local govt who have the courage to stand up to the minority centre right coalition govt and made it possible for this experiment to continue.

Dutch folk are no fools, but they have taken a calculated business risk. there are costs to the public purse as well as benefits, but the greater self discipline and sense of community in NL reduces these costs and risks.
Amsterdam and the surrounding regions are similar to Ipswich, Norwich and East Anglia in many other ways, geography, demographics, key industries etc (and is a strategically important city/urban area but not a capital) although those parts of NL are as densley populated as London – they cram way more people into the same size area.
But because we do not have as much self discipline and sense of community (or just common sense) here, a greater level of tolerance in the UK is currently unthinkable. When they tried in the 90s/2000s to make East Anglia a party area similar to London, it went pear shaped in a very short order of time and folk died due to anythiing from overdoses to gang fights over drugs turf. Even house and trance DJ’s were beating the shit out of one another outside clubs FFS! Ironically the cops and Council used the policing and surveillance methods from Holland to deal with the problems and set boundaries.

ATM I am rather pleased with Copenhagen, we got sumtin that no city else got in the whole wide world…we got that da free-town, Christiania, where the quality of the hashish only can be matched by the best of the best coffee-shops, it might not match the prices of Lisboa but the atmosphere ….. raaa
im going there this summer with a few friends! hope its as amazing as i here
I cant even be arsed to drive to Pontypridd 15 miles from home to pick up some weed, certainly not going to travel all the way to Amsterdam just to get stoned….. totally dont understand ‘drug tourism’
BUT
I do love the Dam just for example they make proving that when legal and with proper education for responsible use not only does legalising certain drugs not cause any problems, but it actually takes money out of the hands of criminals and put the cash in the pockets of businesses and taxes
Some of the Dutchies outside Amsterdam who owned coffeeshops did piss on their chips by hacking their accounts computers to evade the tax on the weed sales, causing the belastingdienst en douane (tax authority) to investigate the lot.
Gedoogbeleid applies to the entire Netherlands, but is widely misinterpreted. It is not a drugs legalisation or promotion but means “we do not agree with drug use but will put up with it and make the best of it”. Drugs are still illegal there but they do not arrest people for small amounts. You can grow 5 plants for your own use (which is a lot in a country where people have plenty of time for hobbies and like growing things), and this is irrespective of whether or not coffeeshops are allowed.
There is still drug related crime (some of it very nasty and violent), a lot of tension because coffeeshops are often owned and frequented by foreigners and in reality overall crime levels in NL are roughly the same as those in the UK. However there are less healthcare and social problems caused by drug use, and the very clever social engineering means that greedy people and/or those who are blatantly flaunting drug use risk being nicked by various “controles” (random searches) but let off if they pay a fine proportionate to their income and drugs, which is basically an extra tax used to offset the cost of tolerating the party culture.
as an example, the cops got €20 000 of fines from a rave with 10 000 people. Of course not everyone in the rave got busted but the controle and sniffer dogs caught the people with 10 pills, but not those with 2 or 5….
I’m not surprised, maybe tourist will bring some for themselves. Could Colorado and Washington State, like Amsterdam, become meccas for tourists seeking to get lawfully stoned while they are away from home? Both States legalized the recreational use of weed last Nov, paving the way for possible weed tourism sectors.
Amsterdam sells marijuana over 100 years. Don’t think that this is the end heh
