That’s great – thank you so much – can’t wait to get there now at least I have an idea of what and where to go. :cloud9:
one of my favourite coffeeshops is Paradox, not far from the Anne Frank House – it’s a really small and freindly coffeeshop that doesn’t see too many tourists. I’ve visited it five times in the last ten years and every time I’ve been I’ve seen the same local faces 🙂 must be a good sign the gear is very good there and you’ll see lots of locals stopping off to pick up their stufff there — oh, and they have great fresh fruit milkshakes!
also, I would recommend some laughing buddha from Barney’s Breakfast Bar on Harlemmerdijk – though it’s always full of tourists the gear is good and they even have a microscope for you to look in detail at what you’ve just bought. great way to start the day!
I agree with globallon – go to the museums, it’s such a shame when british tourists spend all their time in coffeeshops or the red light district – amsterdam has so much more to offer than that. The stedelijk has been closed for refurbishment for some time now, but the van gogh museum is great – especially when you’ve just had some mushrooms 😉
one other recommendation – if it’s a nice day head to Oosterpark – it’s a lovely park to just sit and chill and have a smoke without going in to yet another coffeeshop
have a great time – i’m sure you will!!

I am going to Amsterdam for the first time in October and I too would appreciate the same information.
I bet most of you guys have been to the Dam
through the weed smoke-clouded memories i see a cheap backpackers hostel in the museum quarter just south of the rijksmuseum, was very cool and informal but properly clean and stuff. its one of these, i cant remember which tho…. we had a big bay window on the corner, so it was nice, but a few others got rooms with no windows, so make sure you ask for a decent room when you book.the nearest rokery smokehouse was my favorite caning venue, except maybe the greenleaf near dam square, that had some beautifully carved walls and massive buds under glass. anyway sorry to be vague, its in the nature of teh beast.
I stayed at the ramenas and it was clean, tidy and cheap. me n bout 7 others payed 48 euros for 2 nights each and breakfast is included. the landlord even gave us a bong to smoke with in the room.
Nice little breakfast bar/coffee shop called barneys bout 5 mins away n this was the first place i smoked at, walked out so stoned the place looked different.

I generally recommend the Flying Pig Hostels (http://www.flyingpig.nl/), also the following places are usefull for finding places to go out to depending on what you’re after…

don’t know if it still exists but the Hotel Brian on Singel Canal is very central, cheap, clean, comfy beds
and when i stayed there it had a massive selection of records in the lounge… only one deck though :you_crazy

Ask the good Dr Bunsen i’m sure he’ll be able to assist 😉
You definetly have to go to Barney’s coffee shop…. Is brilliant and the Barney’s breakfasts are to die for!!!!
hit the bulldog, although there are a few of these and also barneys have a cafe and a nice brekfast bar next door! If you go to the cannabis collage down the red light district ask for a demo with the hooker pipe and if your lucky you and your mates can get a go:wink:
