  • Is there one worth trying? Please dont say Bing!

Dmoz is something a little different. User-moderated search/directory. Its less comprehensive, obviously. Quality vs quantity type of thing

    ODP – Open Directory Project

    What’s wrong with Bing?

Qwiki looks interesting – don’t think it’ll be a google replacement, but I like the way it’s presented…clever!

    ask that butler guy 😛

    JEEEVES

I dont really consider it to be any different to Google. And as if to prove my point check out this story that appeared in the news today:

Google accuses Bing over ‘copied’ search results | Technology | guardian.co.uk

Bing is just Microsofts attemp to muscle in on a market they have no historical presence in. Basically because they’ve always been shit at it.

I think Google is an excellent search engine if you’re looking for information like how to change a light bulb, but when it comes to looking for news or trying to buy something, then i think theyre too heavily reliant on sponsorship to be 100% trustworthy with their results.

I was interested to see if there was anything out there i hadnt heard of, that might be worth trying, to verify whether Google was giving you the full picture.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep em coming

There are only 2 search engines which are getting most importance in the market. But Google is King. competing it with Bing is not right. Should focus google. Bing will automatically in your hands. This is simple strategy.

what are you looking to search for?

Ecosia – Welcome to Ecosia although it is powered by bing

    caned_monkey,
Yahoo’s and Microsoft’s Bing search engines are good alternatives to Gooooogle.

No they aren’t, read my earlier post :you_crazy

I was looking for a real altenative not just the same thing with a different corporate brand

Funny your saying this! I remember in the days, netscape and altavista were the biggest search engines. And at the time the anti-big web browser was…google. They were damn good and reliable and still are!

I had a look at the aforementioned browsers. Open Directory looks straight forward and interesting. It’s digging up lesser known sites. On the other hand i tried Qwiki and … well it’s surprising . It’s look flashy, maybe a bit too flashy to my taste. I typed in Skinny Puppy and the way it presents the info is interesting but VERY, VERY limited and out of date. Your actually fed the info. As for the other results they are related subjects and ppl. Quirky but, not the best browser.

I’ll try open directory for a couple of days see what it’s worth.

Here is a useful page. I just typed search engines into a search engine. Smart me %oP
