this is it…
maybe only people the same age group what lived in Southern, Anglia or Westward ITV regions would remember it
bear in mind we’d be aged around 5-6 at the time.
This film was not only shown in junior school, but inserted seemingly at random amongst our kids programmes such as Worzel Gummidge, the Famous Five etc both of which were made by the same TV company (Southern) so the scenes everything looked the same and you thought you was gonna see a comedy or drama…
Ofcom would never allow this today…

Brutal.
Can’t remember them to be honest. Must have been just before my time. Poor old Tom & Robert though. Everybody else gets bigged up in the first clip and then it pans to a couple of lads and he just says “Tom & Robert”
..not sure if there is supposed to be an element of humour in there too but there are some quite funny bits.
They are just horrible 😥
Don’t know if it’s because I have kids about that age..
Really scared me :hopeless:
yep, by the time you were growing up CITV was controlled by Central and kids shows were starting to be funded by merchandising, the politics of that company were such that they wouldn’t have sacrificed 26 minutes of telly for a public sector funded film made by one of their commercial rivals..
this is also why you don’t see PIFs on kids telly much these days as they want to sell the slots for ads. something like this would cause a massive outcry as the advertisers would complain it scared kids and they might have run away and not seen the ads…
somehow it doesn’t register with todays telly companies that kids what don’t get killed in avoidable accidents tend to be worth far more as present and future consumers….:you_crazy
Although we’re looking at it from the POV of adults, I think some of it is intentional. It was made quite deliberately to look like kids drama programmes of the time, many of which were set on location in the English countryside. It also has elements of the “hammer horror / tales of the unexpected” type of “adult” telly some of us may have then also been watching.

Really scared me :hopeless:
think what it must have been like when I first saw it
they pushed it to the limit of what our communications ministry would normally allow for anything shown before 9pm on TV (it was more restricted then)
instantly, 31 years later I remember many of the scenes of this film…
That’s just horrible..I would never show that to my kids..
It’s so much more real than many of the “scary” movies they send in the tv today
harsh
The kids dont seem too perturbed that their mates are dropping like flies though!!
(and some bits were quite funny (sorry!))
I dont remember that one, but I do distinctly remember one where some kid got smoked by some electircs or a train – prob a few years later though
