  • Is this what’s happening? Or am I way off the mark?

Apathy – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    In regards to what ?

Can’t be arsed thinking about it tbh

In regards to what’s happening in the uk, politics etc

Oh! Hmm…I could be wrong but is this generation a bit too stuck in their ‘little bubbles’ what with technology and that ?
My bfs pretty apathetic with politics because he says its just the same old shit over and over again no matter who gets voted in

Im not sure, would be good to know though.

See I thought, itd be the opposite to when I was young and it was all ‘knowledge through ‘zines’ and ‘flyers” with the Internet it’d be a fantastic way to get connected

The main reason I’m asking is I’ve stuck up for the younger generation, with people commenting on them for protesting Maggie, by recognising the legacy these younger people are living through – and acknowledging that you didn’t have to live through the 80’s to recognise the damage done

In politics for sure, I havent voted in over a decade

Think the reason is politicians are more interested in getting votes & power than actually standing for anything, they want to be everything to everyone which basically means all being middle of the road, to scared to do anything in case it upsets someone and losses them some votes

with politicians I can’t really blame them to some extent, we are supposed to have moved on in Europe from bitter fighting between left and right which nearly led to nuclear war, its no different from business or any other environment which tries to balance competition with consensus.

maybe the reality is most people now prefer “middle of the road” politics as opposed to extremes which can and have led to civil conflict and then the uniformed authorities enforcing strong power from above to calm things down (or countries actually breaking up along ethnic/cultural divisions) as has happened in Europe in previous times

as for the people the bulk of them have never really been that interested in changing society as a whole but making life easier and more pleasurable for themselves and maybe a group of family/friends who agree with their views. bear in mind too that as others have said it is so easy for young people to afford gadgets and indulge in hedonism, especially playing loud music, staying up late and or taking intoxicants.

One important factor is that activities our parents (who by and large otherwise did love us to a great extent) would have judged and criticised us for much more harshly in the 1980s are tolerated or even supported by todays parents. Which removes a big conflict point from families thus diminishing a lot of the spirit of youth rebellion.

1980s Dad would be telling his son/daughter “turn down that music, it is way too loud” – 2013 Dad is jokingly saying to them “when I was your age I mixed with vinyl, and computers were for nerds and suits and we wouldn’t have dreamed up such things as dubstep…”

No no no, the Internet IS a way for knowledge, but the technology used around us today makes everyone brainwashed and only allow the minority to see it as such, they may think “yeah It is knowledgeable! We can google anything” but, what are they googling?
Googling – ‘how to win on *such and such game* or, what did *such and such* do on eastenders’

Our society and brainwashed and brainfucked into thinking NOTHING matters except sitting at home and watching TV all day! People are not intact with nature any more, even I am slightly guilt, when is the last time you went to the park and read a book? Or went to the woods and had a long walk on your own?

We are in the decade of destruction and they need to distract the majority to not understand real life issues that are happening around the world rather than just their own problems, and others on TV

And I don’t vote, I do keep upto date with politics and might start but its all going to get run by the same people at the end of the day … Evil, snide, selfish, greedy people.

The richest will own our government no matter what.

To be fair there are also people in government (of all political views) who are there because they have genuinely worked hard and studied hard, and similarly in business.

I’m not saying that stops them from becoming selfish or evil but maybe its also because they grew up seeing others being lazy, taking the piss and breaking laws etc and wanted (and are getting) their revenge. And sometimes can you blame them? I’m sure in junior or high school you may have seen the “herd mentality” of kids bullying another because they are “working too hard” and they are “uncool”. Why would that kid not remember that and want to avenge it when he/she gets older? Its probably why we end up with angry Tories in power.

in foreign lands “strong government” often arises because they genuinely have a lack of resources, environmental threats (earthquakes etc) or the imminent risk of war with a near neighbour, not because all people are evil and want to have a régime of hard control. This is precisely what happened in my ancestors country of Malaysia which had all these things and now because it is currently successful in the global economy has loosened many of its government controls.

At the same time people want all these public services (healthcare, education, transport infrastructure) but they don’t want to pay taxes for them and they resent the Government laying down any rules on how these services are to be used, so they vote for half arsed political parties who claim to be social democrats but still believe ruthless capitalism is the solution to everything like Thatcho did.

The park(s) in my town are full of noisy kids (which is fair enough as its what they are there for) and some distance away from the estate I live in. And the woods here full of dogshit from owners who won’t clean up properly after their mutts because unlike on the street there isn’t a council warden or CCTV watching them or the dogshit bin is full and no one has notified the Council – to them that is “activism” (like a dirty protest) but calling the Council is too much effort but nor will they pay a few pence extra in council tax for a extra cleaner.

I do read books quite regularly and my TV is rarely switched on (I only got it for when my mum and sister visit as I had a old analogue one and the freeview box stopped working)

I’m no saying some politicians are great people and hard workers but I am saying these people will get no where in the political industry being nice and genuine. Unless they fake it to make it, but you can always see the truth.

I don’t want a tv when I’m older and will make sure my kids are more book and sports focused than anything else, not having them raised fu**ed in the head most kids will be with all the TV they watch, all brain dead and unable to think for themselves, just able to repeat, remember and do

The same applies to any industry TBH. I have to do things at work which aren’t particularly nice (like covert intercepts of telephone calls to check that staff are delivering acceptable levels of service) but they have to be done.

Even on here having to scrutinise every new user who is “a bit foreign” in case they are spammers worthy only of virtual geese being set on them isn’t very friendly (and worse that about 80% of girls who sign up here now are actually foreign spammers, because the spam teams know that the internet is male dominated and people might let their guard down) but we have to do it to guard the forum.

With TV those of us above our 30s grew up in times when there was not 24 hour TV as the Communications Ministry or Post Office of most European countries ran the TV transmitters and their governments thought it was excessive especially for children. (also the transmitters use a lot of electricity which cost money to keep running and there was less advertising).
