well i jumped on the band wagon and got myself a fancy ipod a couple of years ago… created a nice shiny bank of music on itunes and lived it up with taking my music everywhere…

a few weeks back my ipod broke and ive got no guarentee on it so i cant send it off to be fixed, and the clever (and very rich) bastards at apple have made it so that now all my music is in mp4 format or something and will only work on apple hardware. a lot of cds were either borrowed, stolen or ive lost or sold them so i cant replace my music and build up my collection again. they no longer make the basic ipods i have, and im not sure im prepared to fork out 180 quid for another.

does anyone know if there is any kind of software i can get that will convert my music from mp4 format to mp3 so i can get a nice cheap mp3 player?

db power amp is free to download and converts into all kinds of formats (many better quality than mp3)

it depends what format you convert from and to… mp4 to mp3 i think you will have the same sort of quality, as both are quite poor recordings (although they’re good enough for listening to on headphones on the bus or whatever)

I love my ipod an my imac computer i have had good experiences with Apple my computer broke after owning it for 2 years so obviously out of warrenty. It turned out it was the logic board had gone basically would have been £500 to replace the board.

I checked online with Apple discovered that my model of G5 Imac did have a recognised problem and they were running an extended warrenty program. They fixed my computer free of charge which i was over the moon about well till it went again but Apple replaced it again free of charge i havent had any problems with it since.

So they arent all bad and as Globallon said their are programs you can use to change the format of MP4 . I personally use an lossless editor called Fission but that is a mac only program.

Firstly, ditch the IPOD ive had a creative since michael jackson was still black, they are soooo hardy and you can do back flips on them and they still wont break

esp’s studio converter, i know it sounds like a lawrence lewellyn bowen program on tv, but it does batch conversions etcetc, anyway goodlcujk
