  • ….Rite me an me bf wanna rent a nice house but the app form from the estate agents is evil.
    Its like a job application.

Says theres a non refundable charge of £20 per applicant for credit and referee checking also IF the application is successful theres a further admin fee of £125..

The form is 4 bastard pages long and asks for 5 yrs of prev address history…2 referees (considering my lack of prev employment is gonna be difficult)

    and all employment details.

Am a bit fucked now for getting somewhere to live cos of losing my job and lots of places dont allow ppl who claim benefits etc.. so fuckin annoying

    😥

I know. The local authorities are getting as bad. It is driving me up the wall. Tell a few porkies and it may help. The credit reference check is a total rip off as it can be done for as cheap as 3 quid. I know because my Mam worked there. Good luck. I’m still waiting and all this silly bidding for accomodation is driving me nuts too.

all i want is a roof over me head! its all bollocks this form business.

think me credit reference check may be bad 😥

whats this bidding for accomodation business???

Most local authorities work on a points system and then they advertise what housing is available (with how many points you need) on the internet or the local paper. If you like the property and have the required points you can then bid for it either over the internet or via a text message. The person who has been on the waiting list the longest amongst other credentials will then be offered the accomodation and bobs your uncle.
Good luck. BTW the local authorities don’t do a credit check unless you have left rent arrears with another authority or registered housing association. So this could be your best chance.

Thanks babs. That’s when I decide where I want to move to. Too many bad influences in Manchester.  :bounce_fl :bounce_fl :bounce_fl

    those forms are standard

i had to pay £200 ‘fees’, plus one and a half month deposit, plus a month in advance

the housing situation is a fucking unfunny joke in much of england

middle classes buying up properties on mortgages they can secure against their current home, at 1000% of what they paid for their house in the first place, then rent for more than the mortgage payments, making a fat profit and essentially getting a free house off someone else’s blood sweat and tears

meanwhile, (in many areas) people who don’t already, will never own their own home

where i live the average salary is about £18,000 and the average price for a 1 bed flat is 10 times that

Ive rented 7 houses/flats over the past 5-6 years and my best advice would be to try and find the private landlords directly. A lot of estate agents have harsh, unneccesary requirements. The latest estate agent still wanted to do a credit check even though i was gonna pay 6 months in advance :you_crazy i have good credit 😉 its just a waste of my money.

So go direct if you can. Private landlords are more reasonable than estate agents in my experience.

    @ global

I share your despair. Im looking to buy something and the prices are silly money. Despite that i need to secure a house, ive wasted far too much money paying other peoples mortgages already. :hopeless:

finding it hard to find a house/flat to rent for just the two of us considering most of the private landlords offer houses/flats to students.

Thers a lot of building of high rise flats in sheffield which are advertised for students, a lot if these flats are put up within the month and are really shit to live in (as i’ve experienced)

Most are ridiculously expensive to live as well..

Av lived in properties owned by private landlords and most of the landlords are really dodgy, like not giving your bond back (the government now holds this bond money)

The landlord I have at the moment is pretty sound, hes been ok about waiting 6 mnths for the housing benefit to come through!

Yup! Makes me fuckin angry too,we will NEVER be able to afford our own house, not by working legitimate jobs anyway:crazy:
