    Your data suggests:
Strong automatic preference for White People compared to Black People.

witch is a bit scary .. i don’t think it’s all that acurate tho … as when it switches the sides of the black and white faces and not the good or bad words it really threw me as i was used to them being on the other side the whole time … i think thats suposed to throw you .. but i just couldn’t work out what side they were suposed to go on .. not sure how that can determin my racial preferances .. doesn’t seem to have worked by the result .. and i am pretty sure even subcontiously i don’t feel that way .. i’ll give it another go tomorrow when iam not so tired

hmm… having another go would defo be interestin… it is called subconscious or unconscious for a reason, ie u arnt aware of it!

if u get the same result 2moro, maybe u cud try a day of conscious reprogramming, watch a few speeches by obama, nelson or martin luther king, a video of usain bolt etc…

it’d be great to think u cud improve ur result on this, it wud prove a point…

    This test is silly.

have you been uncovered as a massive rasist as well then? :laugh_at:

    inconclusive

i think that’s because i did the first part of the test but declined to answer the 20 direct questions. I think the method is a nonsense

i didn’t answer any of them questions either and it worked for me .. alltho it did call me a massive rasist .. mby thats cos i didn’t answer the details about where i live ect lol

    Something like that.

well, me too… i’m glad it wasn’t just me who ‘failed’ it. i think u can say its crap for other reasons, but not because it didn’t give yer a comfortable result…

cos then it looks like u are just shooting the messenger!

    i said it was challenging… 😉

basically, i think its entirely concievable that almost all people are subconsciously prejudiced, in one way or another. In fact, imho, to suggest otherwise, is a bit niave really…

    Load of shite.

It’s the way the test Is presented.

Strong automatic preference for White People compared to Black People.

I got used to answering firstly with White on the right side, then Good on the same side, then when they swapped, It was merely testing how quickly I could remember which side I was meant to be sorting them Into.

I think If the test were the opposite round, then so would my score.

In terms of my actual opinions, I have no Issues with any race, and would like to think I treat everyone equally. Although I will admit Im more cautious, or maybe deliberately act nicer towards another “colour” person, but only because I’ve never really knocked about with black/Asians ect. Not through choice, just never been many In my areas. Im not nice in a patronising way, or nice if they’re a nob, I just mean Im probably subconsciously trying not look racist lol. It’d probably be different If I’d met/hung around with other skin coloured people.

I think I know one Indian origined person (Although English) and barely even would call a friend (Because hes a dick anyway). I’ve also only had one good mate who was black when I was about 8.

All the same I don’t like this test. Although It does kind of match my subconscious feelings (because im not used to other ethnicities) It doesn’t reflect what I know Is right or how I act much.

Why we need a test to tell ourselves If we are racist Is beyond me :you_crazy

hmm, those stoopid Harvard people! fancy puttin in all that effort into setting up the site, and not even thinkin it thru…

i guess people don’t like bein called racists, and that is understandable, i wasn’t entirely happy either! :group_hug but i dont think it is anything to be particularly ashamed about. The media discriminates in a totally blatant manner, for a start, and we are understandably ignorant about cultures that we have little contact with…

this is cribbed from the site, and this bloke (some bloody foriegner!) puts it better than i could.

Many years ago, Fyodor Dostoyevsky wrote: “Every man has reminiscences which he would not tell to everyone but only his friends. He has other matters in his mind which he would not reveal even to his friends, but only to himself, and that in secret. But there are other things which a man is afraid to tell even to himself, and every decent man has a number of such things stored away in his mind.”

from the FAQs on the site…

    1. Could the result be a function of the order in which I did the two parts? I had to group one category together with pleasant words first. I then found it difficult when I later had to group the other category with pleasant words.
Answer: The order in which tests are administered does make a difference to the overall result in some tests. However, the difference is small and recent changes to the test have sharply reduced the influence of order. Because of this order effect, the orders used for IATs presented on this website are assigned at random. For any data we present, we are careful to be sure that half the test-takers got the A then B order and the other half got the B then A order. With the revised task design, the order has only a minimal influence on task performance. If you want to check whether the order made a difference for you, you can take the test again and complete it if you get assigned to the reverse order. If you do take the test twice in different orders and get different outcomes, the best estimate of your result is intermediate between the two. For more information about the order effect, see this paper (Nosek, Greenwald, & Banaji, in press).

so maybe u should do it again…

I also think that i slightly over compensate for lack of familiarity, when in the company of people i percieve to be different, so i certainly see where you coming from on that one.

i would have thought it was useful to know if u were subconsciously prejudiced against any particular group, if u were interviewng people for a job for example.

Or merely to raise awareness…that even though we might feel ourselves to be free of prejudice intellectually, our behaviour may tell a different story.

thanks for explaining your feelings anyway, :group_hug remember that most of us that have managed to get a result from the test, have been labelled as prejudiced, so your not the only one. 😉

i’m organising some pointy hats and burning crosses for us all, i should able to get a considerable discount, cos there are so many of us! :laugh_at: :laugh_at:

here are the FAQ’s, if anyone else wants a quick look, it seems to cover a fair amount…
