Sorry GL, am not too far from your age but I don’t remember the song.

Good to speak to you last night btw!

That was the Rezillos wasn’t it…

wow- give the lad a cigar (or a reefer)

spot on, at least someone is taking the trouble to learn about their country’s culture and heritage 🙂

although perhaps unrelated (viewing figures were dropping) TOTP has just been decommissioned!

they were called the rezillos originally but reformed as the revillos due to the inevitable band splits and contractual disputes..

Ahh well TOTP is being axed now anyway just read it in the papers

    Oi Acid and GL!

That’s why I bumped the thread in the first place. Check the bbc link further up the page.

    😉

Sorry reading this in work so i must have missed that bit DOH!!!

Haha.. no need to apologise. Was only joking.

10 minutes in detention after class though!

yeah missed that post as also at work and wandering about serveral sites using about 3 different PCs at once due to network/telecoms infrastructure upgrades)

not sure if it is the main reason but the PEL may have meant risk assesments, paperwork, extra costs to the BBC

wouldn’t have helped when viewing figures are already declining.

TBH I can see why though, the commercial pop music scene is becoming increasingly irrelevant to anybody older than 12 and this demographic has reached market saturation..

I’m amazed TOTP lasted so long anyway. even by the mid 80s I always thought it was amusing to see a lot of the bands making out they were playing complicated sequences on a Yamaha DX-7 (one of the defining sounds of mid-80s music…) and other keyboards which were clearly not plugged in or connected via MIDI..

Was just listening to the Rezillo’s when I read that…even then it took me a minute for it to twig.

Seems that insted of getting the right licence, theve just said fuck it to 42 years, and its all down to PEL.

mind you having submitted the paperwork myself for a PEL i can see the temptation…

I’ve honestly never ever watched top of the pops…

me either i couldn’t tell you what no.1 is either

the rezillos have taught all of you well then 🙂

(the funniest part of this is that the middle-aged BBC management thought the tune was an affectionate tribute to the show!)
