Australia is an unusual country; the folk there (irrespective of their actual ethnic ancestry) try to be “White European” but also “SE Asian” at the same time which has both positive and negative aspects.
If they are moving anywhere towards decrim that is good news for the entire region as the SE Asian nations may be more inclined to follow suit (they have already drastically reduced the use of the death penalty against drug offenders in SG and MY and Malaysia was very recently looking towards making their rehabs more like those in Switzerland).
