    Base all the way!

i always thought speed and base are almost the same.

depends on your age and what part of the world you are in.

in the UK speed usually is a less pure powdered form of amfetamine (sometimes as little as 5% purity), base being stronger (and often damp, though it can contain more harsh chemicals used in its processing than it should). Strong base is often confused with (and even called) crystal meth but actual crystal meth is rarer in this country being class A.

It crops up more often in the USA and Asian countries which are seen as “harsh” but in reality moderate amfetamine use appears to be tolerated provided the users stay in employment/education and do not commit other crimes, and is clearly widely used as a coping mechanism by otherwise “mainstream” people (rather than as a party drug) to deal with heavy workloads and otherwise boring lives.

you gota be some kind of cheese toasti to have any of these as your fav’s

amfetamine type stimulants are not as bad as they are claimed to be provided you make sure you get some food and rest. The only long term effects they have had on me is a tendence to meow at cats, and to actually start enjoying schlager music (cheesy pop/folk songs sung in NL and DE)

Speed ftw. At least if you get Amphetamines from someone with a script, you know exactly what, and how much of whatever you’re getting. Like how people who can afford it sometimes would rather buy oxy so they always know the purity opposed to buying street h not knowing what the fuck they’re snorting, etc..

got to agree with adderall being king. i guess the holy grail would be finding someone with a desoxyn prescription, but the average purity of methamphetamine has really been going up now that the mexican cartels have figured out how to cook it, but their network thins out greatly as you get further away from mexico. also in states that still allow you to buy pseudoephedrine OTC you still see smurfing and guys cooking in a two liter bottle and the like. if everyone had access to shards of shambu i’d have to give crystal meth the nod but with the availability of prescription Adderall, i vote speed.

In the early 1980s there was a British pop group called Dexys midnight runners (their best known hit is “Come on Eileen” which is actually about a teenager grooming a slightly younger girl into underage sex; it got to number one in the pop charts).

In those days childrens and teenagers TV shows were to some extent combined; there were often live magazine shows on Friday and weekends. These were usually run by the newsrooms using the younger reporters (if you look at the UK BBC website you can see the renmants of this in “Newsround” (for kids) and “Newsbeat” (for teens/young adults) ; for weekend shows the presenters would have to be at the studios at 07:00 for rehearsals, production meetings etc.

There wasn’t any digital delay system back then as the equipment required was very expensive (it had only just been invented) so everything went out live to air.

On one of these shows a young female presenter asked Kevin Rowland (the lead singer) – “how did the band get its name?”

He replied “well you know what dexys are, don’t you?”

She fell silent for a good few seconds (more than 2 seconds is a very long time in broadcasting); and the floor manager sent the emergency signal to the gallery to put on a cartoon or other short filler material as a distraction :laugh_at:

dexy’s refers to dexedrine which is an amphetamine isomer and 1/4th of the mixture of salts they put into adderall. many people have told me they prefered them to adderall.

They were well known in the UK by the 1980s (doctors had only comparatively recently stopped prescribing them like sweets in a similar manner to the USA today). This was around the time the media was becoming a lot more liberal but it still was a career limiting move to admit to openly admit knowing about drugs on childrens TV.

Coincidentally I wanted to test a set of headphones which I thought were defective on one channel and started up the music on my mobile phone – ended up playing this track from around the same era 😉

i remember a guy from wales telling me about dexedrine; he said when you snorted it the drip tasted like candy and he was sure that this was an engineered feature.

The stuff now available in UK is slightly different in preparation to the USA tablets though active dosage levels are the same. In the 80s there were still loads of computer and electronic factories in wales so stimulant usage among the staff was at least tolerated and to some extent encouraged provided the workers made useful gadgets (and they did, there are even still some factories there)

Dexys midnight runners (now just called Dexys) are still around, they played in the Netherlands last year 🙂
