      What’s next :hopeless:

      Quote:
Pakistani former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has been assassinated in a suicide attack.

Ms Bhutto had just addressed an election rally in Rawalpindi when she was shot in the neck by a gunman who then set off a bomb.

At least 15 other people died in the attack and several more were injured.

President Pervez Musharraf and his government called on people to remain calm so that the “nefarious designs of terrorists can be defeated.”

      Quote:
Nawaz Sharif, also a former prime minister and a political rival, said her death was a tragedy for “the entire nation”.

“It is not a sad day, it is [the] darkest, gloomiest day in the history of this country,” he said, speaking at the hospital where she was taken.

I was pretty shocked when I heard about her death, it’s terrible to hear of yet another good politician being killed. Anyway here’s a link to Democracy Now’s coverage of the suicide attack:

you’ll have to add the second line to the first

It’s sad but not shocking that with so many assassins looking for opportunities to strike one would succeed. What is a bit shocking is how the Pakistan People’s Party seems so ill-prepared to go forward with a pre-designated order of succession. Even the terrorists know how to carry on when they lose prominent individuals.

im realy sad about this … all tho my belifes are not democrasy … i feel this woman was trying to do some good … and its fucked up that she/any one had to die because of polotics ….

shame! she was the best person to sort out the future of Pakistan. Pakistan is going to go under like Afganistan and Iraq very shortly if something isnt done. Whats more worrying is that Pakistan is sat on a few nukes!!!

the worlds to nice nowadays , yeah its wrong yeah people would die, but if we declared full war on afew of the more troublesome world countrys than alot of other ones would hopefulyl start watching themselfs a bit more! im a bad human, but it tihkn iran would stop there nuke rubbish if we said were going to bomb the shit out of you

You should apply for the bush administration. You have some neat ideas that they would appreciate.

Its shocking that this could be allowed to happen, esp as she has just returned from so many years of exile and her father and brothers were also assassinated in politically motivated attacks.
She had an attempt on her life not long ago, after she returned to the country, and she accused the countries security forces of if not being behind the attacks at least colluding in some sense as they didn’t take any action to stop the last attack. I surprised that after that they countries security forces once again managed to allow another attack to take place on such a prominent target who had only recently had attempts on her life. I think it is very suspect, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find out that some section of the countries security/intelligence forces had known about the attacks prior to them being carried out, particular after she said publicly last month she suspected the security forces loyal to the current president being involved at some level (or at least having prior knowledge) in the last attempts. Its worrying to think they are a nuclear power.

really sad for their country that she has been killed, i hope her death wasnt in vain raaa

sadly, it was only a matter of time before an attack against her was successful.

she was a brave and courageous woman, standing up for what she believed in under extreme circumstances.

while i think the rhetoric behind the ‘war on terrr’ is a truckload of baloney, this murder is a good example of the danger of religious fundamentalism and what all people who want to have freedom of thought and speech are up against

      RIP Benezir
