  • Hi folks, I can honestly say i haven’t watched and have never watched BB. I find the whole concept to be really really shit.

Loads of people at my work seem to love it and i really can’t see why.

Does anyone here watch it and why!?

DO you want to know something quite wierd i absolutly hated all the previous big brother but this series i have watched and its is rather funny lol i dunno if its the people in there or not but i kust find it mildly amusing like watching a hamster fun in a wheel lol

The first series was good – it was interesting, new and no-one in there expected fame.

Now its just bullshit…but it can suck you in if your not careful.

Some episodes are funny but others, at the end of the half hour, you just want to cry in a ‘thats half an hour i’ll never get back’ sort of way!

I admit i have watched previous series but not this time round, i think i’m freeeeeeeeee :laugh_at:

Those two options are rather complete extremes aren’t they Cliffy. Where’s the “I sometimes watch it if it’s on” choice.

I sometimes don’t get a choice as the girlfriend watches it a bit. I think I find it interesting how Big Brother pushes their buttons and orchestrates the way they want things to pan out. Plus ‘people watching’ is a natural human instinct I think.

    It is rubbish though.

I didn’t want to put a indifferent option. Two options keeps it simple i think. 😉

    Steaming pile of crappola.

Never watch it, I dont really watch TV full stop though, boring waste of time!

I watch it – more often then not :egg:

I tend not to like the contestants, and tend to get wound up and shout at the TV,

    but I still watch it???

I do like looking at the ‘group dynamics’ but am fully aware we get shown what Big B wants us to see – so even thats not really real….

but then I do the same if I’m in and Jeremy c*** Kyle is on……

Maybe I just like getting wound up over nonsence? :laugh_at:

i won’t watch it out of principle – and find the wider concept of it quite chilling

some people try and fight for the rights to retain privacy in a surveillance society, yet others are willing to give all those rights away for potential “fame” which only lasts a couple years anyway and 20 years ago they could have got this through the normal “yoof telly” type projects without exposing their entire lifestyles

also I feel this on screen behaviour is only allowed to let peopel “stitch themselves up with free expression” so the media and authorities can find more to judge young peoples lifestyles and clamp down on them in subsequent years

same with Jeremy Kyle, it makes people think “look at those scum, something should be done about them”

apologies if this sounds sexist but these programmes tend to be popular with women, even those in professional occupations with power in society (for instance my young sister who works in NHS reads all those chavette type mags and it definitely hardens her views over certain people)

and when girls/women mature (whether or not they have kids) the maternal instinct starts developing and they want to use it to make society better – there are way more women now in positions of power such as healthcare workers, councillors, magistrates, police officers, government miniusters and that IMO is where we get our nanny state from …

jeremy kyle is a horrible piece of shit, exploiting people who’ve had shit goin on for peoples amusement, hes a hypocrite and a snobbish cunt.

I agree he is a dick,
but the people who go on his show know what they are doing – they ask to be on the show!!! maybe they are exploiting themselves??

well they do get paid for it but its only a few hundred quid (far less than people realise), same with the chavette mags

but “back in the day” and I’m only talking about 20 years ago the IBA (forerunner of Ofcom) and BBC Governors had different rules…

they were a lot stricter about content – not quite to the verge of censorship but they would make it clear that certain levels of exploitation and certain sorts of shows were not acceptable whilst still allowing a lot of gritty in depth journalism (far better than todays shite)

they also had the balls to dictate to the TV companies how they should spend their money as it wasn’t and shouldn’t be a “free market” even for commercial broadcasters – different sections of the community have different levels of purchasing power but all are/were influenced by telly so the revenue was supposed to be spread out to provide content for all sections of the British community..

for instance in those days a violent cop/crime drama was still allowed (in fact some 70s/80s drama shows are more violent than todays but just had less swearing) but some of the ad revenue from this was supposed to be used to fund kids and schools programmes

also with tighter rules on swearing and sex it actually made producers more inventive about getting things “past” the regulators

but people (especially the owners of commercial broadcasters, and some of the misguided idealistic TV producers) claimed this was “censorship and overregulation” and lobbied for a more “market led” approach -and this is why we get the crap on telly you see today…

I watch it nearly every day but thats only coz ma mum watches it so I’ve got to sit through it. I fuckin hate it:yakk:

Here’s how you get out of watching it. Next time it’s on and you’re watching it with your ma. Mention how pretty the girls are and put your hand down your trousers and pretend to have a wank. this should shock your poor mother and she’ll expel you from the room. No more fucking Big Brother for you! raaa
