Service pack 1 and 2 are a common feature of windows because hackers discover security flaws over time, bugs are found etc. In fact even with XP if you dont enable updates you system will be open to attack as they are STILL finding security problems. They are nothing to do with virus’s or windows defender and software firewalls are very basic indeed. Windows has and always will have the problem of being attacked by large numbers of people. Using beta software is risky because by its very nature its still in its testing phase. Im really not making it up but theres plenty of info online about such things.

well windows 7 is bassed on vista .. but just stripped down and re-built as far as i can work out so i would assume they have factored in the security bit of vista. and vista was pretty well protected

The RC is out now, I never bothered with the betas.

its swings and roundabouts, but unless your really into your computers I dout it will make much difference and It does look prittyer. Personally im downgrading I think or getting rid of windows all2gether.

Man you might as well stick windows 98 on it if that’s your attitude. XP is a decent operating system but it’s outdated and while it makes sense keeping it on older machines it’s a waste of time having it on newer ones.

and with all its security flaws hackers will love you mmmmmmmmmmmm :p

Vista and I would assume Windows 7 are far more secure than XP from the beginning. They have the most effective defense against root kit virus’, which are the only ones that worry me, and also IE isn’t built into the system files it’s now an addon program with no admin control. Anyway both are safer than XP, which was famous for security flaws.

I guess its a highly debated issue, I take your points about the root kit and IE they do sound like vast improvements if there arnt new security problems created. But it will take time to find out just how secure these things are. But yeah its all good perhaps its just a matter of taste and having the chunky PC.
