  • Court seizes £6k rave sound system (From The Bolton News)

A SOUND system worth £6,000 used to host an illegal rave party in Rivington has been seized by police.

Two men involved in organising the event, 43- year-old Graeme Mizon and Paul Aughton, aged 45, have also been ordered to pay £615 each in fines and legal costs.

The rave, which was organised using social networking website Facebook, was held on a secluded car park, off Dean Head Lane, on May 15.

About 60 partygoers were in two large marquees when police arrived at about 11pm.

The event was shut down by police just before 2am and roads leading to it were closed. A large number of people were stopped on their way to the rave and prevented from getting there.

Mizon, of Mark Lane, Todmorden, and Aughton, of Long Butts, Penwortham, were found guilty of providing licensable activity without a licence following a one-day trial at Chorley Magistrates Court.

The equipment, which was seized by police on the night, was forfeited after the court made a deprivation order.

Sgt Tony Bushell said: “The real coup is the seizure and forfeiture of the equipment which will prevent these individuals from carrying out these events in future.

“We have seen a number of raves in the area and these events cause considerable problems for local residents.

“They also impact massively on police resources and result in an increase in violent crime.”

“They also impact massively on police resources and result in an increase in violent crime.” those bloody hippies scrapping again!

gutted. Doesn’t sound very well organised.

sorry to those involved, but facebook…

to be fair, you can promote an event using facebook without giving any details away… just saying to people in the know “this date, somthing going on, ear to the ground”, i think this was a friendly crew from lancashire area

yeah you can easily, but when they want to prosecute someone. all they have to do is link you to that facebook advert/page and they’ve got all the evidence they need. no chance your blagging yourself as a dj or a punter.

facebook insists people use their real names / personal details and most people do this – its also not that easy to set up a fake ID without giving away some details of the real person’s details – detectives know how to spot stuff like this.

In that area GMP and Lancs would work together to closely monitor facebook for gang activity and raves now come under this umbrella due to the links with drug dealing and scally culture.

I don’t disbelieve gef’s comment that this particular crew was a friendly one (the two dudes are definitely old skool by their ages!) but unfortunately raves are judged by the worst crews, the copper may be commenting on other raves in the area what attracted more scallies and where violence did occur (which appears to be fairly common in Manchester). its possible that a lot of Mancunians may be targeting Lancs due to GMP clamping down a few years ago.

A friendly Suffolk crew got busted hard because of a similar situation in our region, two of the lads got sent down!

my second favourite 808 state song behind pacific 😉

I might still have that tune somewhere on vinyl! To be fair Manchester did go through a relatively “peaceful” phase in the late 80s to early 90s but the gang/scally culture soon overpowered it (same as other city areas) as soon as the party drugs started wearing off.

I think the Police Sargeant is lumping all raves and the rest of the night time economy together. Neither he nor the media are considering the bigger picture that there has always been a strong “hard man/fighting” culture in NW England for many years – a recent edition of BEER magazine mentioned there was still a problem with “alcohol-related violence” in 1970s Manchester when the most popular drink was mild ale at 3.5-3.8% ABV!

just did a bit of further research and the sarge is the specialist Licensing Officer for the area, not just a normal local SNT sargeant. Having looked at other cases he’s been involved in, I’m not surprised he has a very bleak view of peoples behaviour…. that said, I don’t think the Police are 100% to blame. Lancs isn’t as mad as MCR but is a high crime area so this wouldn’t normally be a priority incident – they tend to only react after locals have complained or there genuinely have been incidents of violence or serious injury associated with events. (Not all victims of assaults go to OB but in some areas the NHS often pass on info that an incident happened whilst withhold names).

Even at the private party that me and process were at a couple of weeks ago, the Old Bill turned up because one neighbour in the whole street complained and had used the 999 system (the rest of the neighbours were OK and the house next door also contained a party!)

the chap organising the private party and his friends are known to cops for raves, but this was indeed his own house where he lives with his partner and kids and all official records showed this. It was also clear this was not just a “mini-rave” but also a gathering for whole families including a number of small children and dogs, and that the music would stop eventually as the kids would have to be looked after at some point.

the cops simply went away and said it was a matter for the single nimby (who wasn’t a old granny lady but a youngish mother, probably only in her 20s) to contact the Council. people like her what call 999 like that are IMO much worse than cops who are only doing their jobs. I’ve been to a number of successful events like this in the last 3 years where the cops have only visited once, if people have genuine permission to be there or its their own land it makes a lot of difference..

BTW £615 fine is about the same cost as applying for a full PEL..

yep the kids and their families appeared the next morning, from the house in the middle -when I first saw this, it was after I had retired to the bus in near darkness and lost track of time, space and any accurate idea of dimensions. So it then looked like a infinite procession of kids/families had appeared out of nowhere, although there were only about 5-10 more people.

So thats 3 houses in a entire street in favour of the party and the owners/renters organising it. There are loads of legit reasons for having this event – it could be any of the kids or adults birthdays, or simply the families getting together to have a party! There is absolutely no way the cops could use any CJA powers to stop this, they can only give advice to the complainer to go back to the Council and report the noise. Some of the kids weren’t much older or same age as the young baby the whinging woman had!

The chap who owns the main house is older than me, a responsible and caring dad and has his head screwed on so he’s not going to take the piss with these – it was really disappointing that someone so young actually took it into their own hands to complain :you_crazy
