  • Hello out there.

Does anyone remember the Brambles Farm Peace Camp and the subsequent Torpedo Town Festivals?

If anyone has any information on where people are now and how I can contact them, please let me know at damien.boden@btinternet.com or damienboden@canterburytrust.co.uk

I am trying to trace people for a possible reunion and party this summer. It’s been 25 years since we took the field ion Waterlooville! Lets not forget the significance of that and the other things that were going on at that time!

yeahi remember Torpedo town but for all the wrong reasons . got invted on to someones bus and was mugged with a hammer .shme on you ! baby on the bus as well ! still dont like getting in peoples buses!still go to partys , BE CAREFUL BE GOOD BEHAVE

That was bad luck! Most people I met in those days were sound, although there are always scum lurking around taking advantage of people and situations. Which festival was it? was it in Waterlooville or one of the later ones at Bramdean or Liphook?

Anyway, good luck and keep partyin!!

    Dambo

it was a later one .sorry if i cast a shadow on your thread . i hadnt heard it mentioned for a long time and it brought it all back. i know people who had a good one there .i cant remember where it was ,i saw the same people at summer solstice at Longstock which was pukka:love:

is there any meaning behind the name ‘torpedo town’?

‘Torpedo Town’ refers to Waterlooville in Hampshire. This is where we set up a peace camp in 1982 to try and stop GEC Marconi building a torpedo factory. The festival was born out of this and so became the TORPEDO TOWN festival. The best one was in 1992 at Liphook when Spiral Tribe et al entertained us. One of my best memories of those days before the crackdown on fun and free partying!!

    All the best

ah right, that clears up a mystery for me, for years I wondered how it got its name

yes I was there but TBH my memories of it aren’t that happy either..

was supposed to be DJ’ing there but we got moved on and cops confiscated my records for two weeks (they were returned but a few tunes had been mixed up with someone elses) – also remember seeing a fair amount of trouble between the travellers (seemed to be some sort of dispute between groups).

didn’t some place get burned out as the travellers got evicted?

TBH I think the best part of the free party scene in the early 90s only lasted about 1 season, then it went shit for a while with people (both travellers and “weekend warriors” all getting into the wrong drugs) – then ironically the CJA brought everyone together again and it surged up again from 1997-2001!
