Can males and females really be JUST friends?
As stated by others, if they are family or if both are gay so there is no physical attraction either way then yes, but otherwise IMO NO not for very long.
I fell in love with a female friend who broke my heart, in fact ‘broke’ dont do it justice, she tore me to pieces. We were great friends for years, part of the same clubbing crowd, always hanging out together and she became my best friend spending time together almost everyday, I dumped an ex and blew off many opportunities to hook with other girls just to spend time with my friend, wasted years in the hope she would one day feel the same way, when we finally hooked up for me it was a dream come true, we carried on as ‘fuck buddies’ for a while but when I told her how I felt about her, maybe I scared her off or made her uncomfortable since she didnt feel the same, or maybe she didnt want to hurt me any more by letting me think there was a chance but either way the friendship was never the same and soon died off. Basically I lost my best friend by falling in love with her, busted me up so bad I stopped going to work & lost my job, sank into a stoner daze to months, and though I not a violent person by nature it even drove me to beating the crap out of her new boyfriend just because he kissed her in front of me like he was rubbing my nose in the fact he had what I wanted most in the world and I knew he couldnt care about her 1millienth as much as I did, lucky I didnt kill him, in that moment I really wanted to and only her crying stopped me.
IMO there is a good reason that the friendships that endure the test of time are same gender ones, thats because there is no sex or feelings to mess them up, in male/female friendships either both will develop feelings and they become a couple, or one will develop feelings the other doesnt and get hurt.
