it would depend on the licensing arrangements. It says over 18s on the flyer and there doesn’t appear to be any mention of facilities for children/babies.
When a young mum brought her child to a well run EDM event at a Welsh arts centre all it took was for one person to notify security and cops ordered the music to be stopped until the mum and child could be located/identified. Although they had both already left and gone home the social services and Council were still notified and it is an active investigation.
they can get a license variation allowing children in (from age 0-12 usually as they are less problematic than the pre-mid teens) if one does not already exist but the organisers would have to prove they can keep the kids safe. Many of the organisers (whom I know personally from the 90s/2000s SE England party scene) are parents and the age range of EDM fans is very wide so it would not be totally impossible to get this.
its something worth clarifying as increasingly many music events do cater for a wider family group. Even at Norfolk unlicensed events it was not uncommon to meet two or three generations of the same family at an event, ranging from grandparents in their 40s to babies.
TBH even amongst a group of drug users/party heads their reaction on encountering a baby or small child is instinctively to protect it from harm, and especially the girls/young women want to make a big fuss of it. I don’t think there is any risk to smaller kids at EDM events or alternative communities as a whole where there is a risk is when they are about 12-15 and want to “do what the adults do” and might end up starting on drugs earlier than they should.

However…
It is with sincerest regret that we have sadly been forced to cancel UMF 2013 due to irreconcilable differences with the local authorities. The hostility and restrictions we faced were just not right for what we wanted to create with UMF. We have tried our hardest to resolve this situation but because we have put so much time and effort into the original site it has left us with insufficient resources to find a suitable alternative and mediate with the authorities for a new area.
We are absolutely as gutted as we know you will be but please do not think this is the end for UMF, far from it. We have already been offered a new site for 2014 and we’ll be dotting all the “I”s and crossing the “t”s for that a soon as we can.
In the meantime we are also working on doing a smaller one day/night event the same weekend so that all is not lost for 2013 and again there will be updates for this in due course.
Once again we cannot thank you all enough for your support for UMF in the past and we hope you will continue to do so in the future.
Anyone who has bought a ticket or paid a stall fee will of course be refunded in the next week or so, please bear with us while we do this as it’s a lengthy process but if you haven’t heard anything within 10 days just drop us an email office@undergroundmusicfestival.co.uk
Keep up to date with future happenings on this page
Big love
UMF Crew x
Yeah Gutted is an understatement guys… 🙁
More PV crew at Shambala then? They are on the same weekend aren’t they?
Derp! Obviously not if I’d bothered to read the date in the title lol. Still first question is still applicable.
shambala’s normally two weeks before, but this year it’s three weeks before due to the bank holiday being a week earlier.
