I lurk on some of the hobby science sites myself out of curiosity and whilst it is possible to legally purchase chemicals for genuine science experiments most suppliers have proper websites, contact details and don’t want to risk their reputation by posting on a forum full of drug users. In any case there are very strict rules in my country (UK) about distribution and storage of many chemicals for good reason, if stored wrongly they could set a big fire or explosion and folk might get hurt.
A lad round my way got his house visited by his local Police, the Fire Brigade and the Metpol anti terrorist units, because he had been hoarding chemicals in a shed which were potential precursors to explosives. Whilst he genuinely was conducting science experiments (looking at various items through microscopes) and the chemicals were not intended for any bad purpose, he was clearly not storing them in a safe manner (they were kept in a wooden shed in a residential area!) and the region he was in has had problems with racial tension and other lads the same age making IEDs to target against immigrant communities.
Even so its still possible to legally obtain chemicals for your science experiments or other projects such as making an electronic circuit board, this should be done safely and via the proper channels to protect the user, their neighbours and the environment.
