I was but the scene in the early 90s wasn’t as good as it is claimed to be. drugs were expensive, hard to get and often poor quality, there were some really bad gangsters and even sexual predators around on the rave/drugs scene.
there weren’t sites like partyvibe (internet wasn’t easy to get on outside universities) so people didn’t get reliable drugs info about risks etc and got addicted or even fatally overdosed. Back then the economy was in recession and there was a harsher government and police, but even then they had strong surveillance networks (though not quite as good as todays).
This event happened at the tail end of the 90s by which time the Internet was just becoming popular, knowledge was being shared via it as well as massive advances in media technology. at the same time the economy was booming so there wasn’t paranoia about terrorists/immigration/foreigners etc and the cops let you get away with all sorts, as most party heads had jobs and weren’t doing any other crime apart from low level party drugs use. I lived in the same area as leveret at the time and there was so much spare resources due to business expansion you could break into a different abandoned warehouse every few weeks and party it at the weekend and use it during the week for all kinds of mad projects.
