drugs testing kit is much more widely available and the new stuff works doesn’t even require medical professionals to assess it (its sold in industrial equipment catalogues nowadays)
Its not that cheap though, about £3-£10 per worker depending how many drugs are tested for, and also means someone is left with the unpleasant task of dealing with a container of someone elses urine.
so in many cases this tactic is only deployed when big clients demand it as part of insurance policies or regulations (such as the railways) or they are owned by US firms – even then I think in most British companies the threat of testing is used far more often than actual tests, simply as a subtle warning to be sober enough on Monday to do your safely and efficiently.
