I am at work and the Websense filtering software (which is very popular at employers worldwide) prevents me seeing the entire “london by design” site. if you cut and paste info to this site then more people can see your info!

Web filtering, monitoring and censorship will be an unavoidable part of the net in the future, so we all need to find ways to work round it.

I can see it at home but not at work

once a filter gets indexed by filters often the whole domain is blacklisted – they also seem to share info nowadays so all filters are blocking the same thing. the markets big enough now for all of them not to be too worried about competition..

I can’t read any part of your site from my work.

According to my sister (who is an IT sales account manager) the Websense filtering software is one of the most popular kinds used in workplaces today, and is selling more and more copies as a backlash against “free speech” explodes worldwide.

You might be able to attach the flyer image but TBH text details are often easier to read, some people read this site via mobile devices with graphics turned off as well.. (if you are on GPRS mobile web access you get charged by data transferred so graphics are expensive)

On another note though (please don’t take this personally as you may not have wanted the dress code) the clubs dress code is a bit restrictive.

I would never be able to attend your event as I wear at least one of the “banned” items as part of my normal street clothes and have done so since the old-skool days. A thug who complies with a dress code could just as easily infiltrate an event and cause trouble, banning clothing does not make an event safer and is no better than the workplace filters banning your advert from being seen!

If you go to the websense home page there is a link where you can check the list of categories, your sites classification and challenge it if you think it is incorrect.

Bear in mind though that invoking a review could mean it will get indexed as a different category and still blocked for another reason!

unfortunately there is very little else you can do (apart from suggest people look at the link from home) as it is the right of whoever pays for a net connection to filter it as they wish and there is no official guarantee of free speech on the Internet.
