  • Yeah be a robotic type, tell them what they want to hear, that nothing could make you happier than slaving away for their company, you love their company and wouldn’t dream of using any other store for shopping.

So what should I do GL? Should I dumb down my CV in terms of qualifications and then play it a little less sharp if I ever make it to interview (I think being a little to wordy and knowledgeable is what failed me on my last interview.

People seem to want, dumb caveman-like employees!

Intelligence seems to be more of a drag than an asset.

I’m surprised they asked for a CV at all for a temp retail job, it was normally just application forms.

But even when I was a paid broadcast engineer my then employers (who later went bust and were bought out by a competitor) didn’t want you to “know too much”.

also its not that easy to pose as someone you are not (for instance whilst I could possibly blag my way into the British Telecom research centre even without a pass card by posing as a contract worker, I would not be able to keep the accent up long enough and would start sounding more like a 1970s sitcom character and eventually slip back into Estuary English and thus get rumbled)

TBH I don’t thnk they even want the US-inspired cult style devotion to the company, as they know we British don’t go for that, they just want someone who they can either trust or is too dumb to try and sophisticated fraud. especially as a very posh graduate from a good family landed a job as marketing manager at tesco, and promptly caned a company credit card for several tens of thousands to bankroll a music festival. He was nicked and sent to jail for fraud, the saddest thing about this is his family net worth and his legit career would have enabled him to get the credit perfectly legitimately.

The duties that I had in my previous role ensured that I had to be trustworthy. I had to open finance, handle money, visit customer’s houses. What more do they want from me?

I’m too old for all of this shenanigans. I just want to tell them what I can do and how hard I will work and for them to give me a chance.

you would be better off looking for vacancies in small to medium size local businesses. These often do get advertised at the job centre and local newspapers or on jobs24 websites, and these businesses if reputable tend to be less paranoid about applicants.

Just had a look for Cambs and Norfolk and there are a lot of healthcare vacancies and also graduate jobs but for electronics engineers and for anyone with mechanical or trades skills. Also some hospitality/catering type management positions, and a janitor wanted for a junior school (though you would need 100% clean CRB as expected).

I have no hospitality or catering skills (although I do have Management skills). I would do the janitor job but it’s not enough hours. Need min 35 hours per week. Preferably 40.

I didnt get a job at tesco because i have no experience as im a fully qualified health care assistant and have worked looking after the elderly since i left school, but there is no work for me just now and have found myself unemployed, the thing is how am i supposed to get experience if they wont take me on and let me try, im a hard worker and im a fast learner but that wasnt good enough for tesco, so fuk them!! Havent applied for any other jobs with them and certainly wont again in the future, ASSHOLES!!!! So i get what your saying bud, xx
