• yea its pretty widespread. as onelog says its been around brighton for a while, i avoided some (that amate had and warned me off) only to buy stuff with what im pretty sure was icing sugar (absorbs moisture, keeps bud wet) from someone else.

in hampshire the buds been pretty nice homegrown but i just got a q of this sandy bud. it was a mission just getting that this near christmas in a strange town, so im just leaving well long roaches and hoping for the best. im sure its not good tho.

i heard on sj that it is a spray to increase yeild that is being over-applied but i doubt a spray would be full of fake-crystal particles. it just seems like a cut.

i spose it was only gonna be a matter of time before some arsehole found a way to cut bud. :yakk:

Aye, shit is widespread 🙁 been in Cornwall for a good 6 months at least. Silica sand is being used, and I’ve come across lots of bud that’s been sprayed with a glucose solution – they taste sweet!:annoyed: and don’t burn properly as has been said. If you must smoke really gritty weed then a bong is the way forward – particles are likely to be trapped in the water- whereas in a spliff you could be inhaling silica sand:hopeless:

But the best thing to do is to get your money back & get some proper stuff (assuming that you can’t grow) and failing all of the above at least chuck the stuff away!! (preferrably into the cunts face who cut it in the first place!!!)

Bought some a few days back, gutted.

It solidifies and burns badly in a joint if you ram it. Which is annoying because you need to ram it to get stoned off this poor green

poor green exactly ! the stuff i had seemed like it was pretty decent b4 sum twat fucked wit it to try make an extra buck, tis fuckin sacralige <(?!)

My mates got some, and said he rubbed it into the carpet to get all the crap off, then smoked it, and then got caned

This is a chemical analysis of the contaminated weed from a reliable source. As I suspected, it does contain silicates. These are nasty things to inhale and the stuff they appear to be using (etch resist spray) is full of worse chemicals.

Forward from UKCIA’s forum regarding this contaminated batch of cannabis circulating in the UK at the moment…

THIS IS A ONE-OFF POST- PLEASE CIRCULATE. VERY IMPORTANT.

I have done a basic analysis on the contaminants of 3 batches of bud from SW, SE and London- I have also seen similar samples from many, many sources, starting at the end of february 2006.

1: Under microscope at 50x magnification, contaminants appear as very small (50-120 um) beads, with regular circular shape and small pores/ single holes present.

2: Beads do not dissolve in non polar solvents (pet ether) or polar solvents (ethanol, acetone).

3: Beads are insoluble in conc NaOH solution, conc H2SO4.

4: Melting point is above 400C, but cannot perform TG, DTG analysis at the moment so cannot specify any transition temperatures or accurate melting points.

5: The beads have a significant sodium and silicon content, suggesting that the comments previously about silicates are correct.

6: Smoking this has resulted in mouth ulcers and sore throats/ chesty coughs which never occur when smoking normally due to the good health and only occasional cannabis use of the subject.

7: Reliable sources say that this contaminant is industrial etchant spray used for glass frosting, It is a high pressure aerosol of propellant, lubricant and silicate abrasives. This accounts for the high permeation levels displayed in all 3 samples, with particulates presents inside even ‘tight’ buds all the way into the stems. This also may account for the non plant oils present in the bud which have been previously described as a ‘glue’

8: The same sources (and other independent sources) have corroborated the same story of the origin of this contamination. The main suppliers are from 2 major cities to the north of wales and are gangs from these two cities. Most people will guess where I mean as the post ‘drought’ supplies are mainly concentrated around these cities.

9: Obviously a further qualitative analysis is needed and I may be able to perform MS, IR, NMR and thermal methods on the samples, in particular the oil ‘glue’ and the gritty particulates.

10: DO NOT SMOKE THIS, IT MAY POSE A SIGNIFICANT HEALTH HAZARD AND WE MAY SEE A DRUG TAKING COMMUNITY CRISIS ON A LARGER SCALE THAN THE MPTP CRISIS OF THE EARLY 80’S.

BUYERS: PLEASE RECONSIDER BEFORE BUYING ANY MORE OF THIS, AND CONSIDER THE DAMAGE YOU MAY BE CAUSING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.

PLEASE RE-READ POINT 7. IT IS THE MOST RELIABLE INDICATOR OF THE MOST OBSERVED CONTAMINANTS. OTHER CONTAMINANTS SUCH AS NATURAL SAND ARE PROBABLY THE RESULT OF SUPPLIERS COPYING THE ETCHANT METHOD WITH WHATEVER THEY HAVE TO HAND.

read this if you are thinking of smoking this shit

and this is where I found the quote below

Quote:
Silicon may cause chronic respiratory effects. Crystalline silica (silicon dioxide) is a potent respiratory hazard. However, the likelihood of crystalline silica generation during normal processing is very remote. LD50 (oral)- 3160 mg/kg. (LD50: Lethal dose 50. Single dose of a substance that causes the death of 50% of an animal population from exposure to the substance by any route other than inhalation. Usually expressed as milligrams or grams of material per kilogram of animal weight.) Silicon crystalline irritates the skin and eyes on contact. Inhalation will cause irritation to the lungs and mucus membrane. Irritation to the eyes will cause watering and redness. Reddening, scaling, and itching are characteristics of skin inflammation.
Lung cancer is associated with occupational exposures to crystalline silica specifically quartz and cristobalite. An exposure-response relationship has been reported in studies of miners, diatomaceous earth workers, granite workers, pottery workers, refractory brick workers, and other workers
Several epidemiological studies have reported statistically significant numbers of excess deaths or cases of immunologic disorders and autoimmune diseases in silica-exposed workers. These diseases and disorders include scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and sarcoidosis.

bugger. i smoked an eigth of that not too long ago. never again. will spread the word. hopefully if enough people know the truth the source can be blocked (or preferably lynched).

You are right – it is mostly etchant spray, or, if it tastes sweet, a carbohydrate based powder called Brix or Brix plus.

The Brix is not too deadly but the spray is REALLY bad for you. It is being mostly added in Holland or my the gangs controlling import because of the poxy fucking drought. The best way to test is to taste a little bit, or put some bud on a hard surface, remove it and run a glass over the area – if you hear crunching you have been fucked over….:yakk:

If you must smoke it use a vaporizer or put a cigarette filter in the joint rather than a roach – the danger comes from inhaling the minute glass particles.

Best of all DON'T BUY IT. TAKE IT BACK. COMPLAIN.

If we buy it it WILL become the norm.

The Dutch are sending it over because the British are the only ones stupid enough to buy it..We have a reputation in Europe for taking any old shit and not complaining..

Just thought those three points needed reinfocing and reitterating.

Having read this think I’ve come across this stuff a couple of times post-drought – certainly explain what some of the shit has been doing to my chest when I’ve scored it!!!! – and thinking back the description sounds very familiar!!

I shall def be conducting that test in future anyway!!

tbh if the grit is insoluble in water it is likely to be silicate :crazy::crazy:

there was an article in the Eastern Daily Press about this last week some time. i cant find the link but was basically warning ‘drug users’ to be aware of contamintated cannabis doin the rounds. also calls from an organisation for legalisation the name of which avades me, basically pointing out the dangers of prohabition.

I aint seen this stuff yet, but had a batch of green that when you smoked it, the shit would spark a lot! that bad you could make a line of it then light one end and it would spark and crackle to the other end!!

Me and me mate smoked a joint then were to scared to smoke anymore incase it was dodgy!

Still got some might try and find it and video the way it burns as it is some wierd sh!t!! :you_crazy

The best advice is take it back if you get this stuff – the addition of etching compounds means that there is more than just glass in it.

There will be propellant traces and also the adhesives all of which are likely to be carcinogenic in their own right [the silica is carcenogenic if inhaled at high temperature – see post a few before this] which means the cocktail is extremely toxic.

If that is all the dealer has, do without – cancer is an unpleasant disease [especially lung cancer – a family member died of this when I was young and he lived with us for the last few months of his life – the memories are vivid to this day ] and chronic lung disease is also very unpleasant – dont risk it.

The risk – enjoyment balance is coming down heavily on the risk side for this silica laced weed and your lungs will hurt when you smoke it – if they dont all that tells you is that they are badly damaged already.

Sorry to be such a downer but I think you need to know the risks before you take them :flowers:
