Drug regulators are to consider making the pill available over-the-counter without a doctor’s prescription.

Sexual health tests and medicines for controlling heavy periods will also be considered with the regulator saying it was keen to liberalise controls.

    What do you think?

Nobody should start on the pill, before they have had a checkup with their doctor..

      Just my oppinion :hopeless:

No i don’t think it should be..

There are risks in taking the pill and medical history should always be checked before taking any medication.

i believe that a check up should be done first, but i sat through a family planning clinic session with one girl and the questions they ask you are bollox, you could in theory blag the lot. Cause they just hand you the pill anyway as long as you answer the questions in the correct manner.

Ah it is an idea but they need to put mesures in place to make sure that you can only get it if you have been checked over, or as raver points out blag your way through a few questions.

Humm i think me ex who was on the injection saved a load of problems

Yeah it is true that the questions can be blagged – I know our lass did lol – but at the same time at least the fact you have to blag them means that you are aware of the risks etc and some kind of medical check has been carried out.

However, once that’s been done then I see no reason why it shouldn’t be over the counter – some system could surely be put in place.

What does annoy me though is that access to family planning is proper shit round here- the place is only open Mon-Fri while most people are at work – because of this my gf and I ended up having to wait two weeks into our relationship before we could get her on the pill – which ended up with us risking her getting pregnant as neither of us like using condoms whatsoever – irresponsible I know but at the end of the day we shouldn’t have been forced into that situation – surely their should be some form of out of office hours service available.

yes, provided people are made fully aware of the risks involved to the same level of robustness as the questions asked in the NHS family planning clinics..

the permissive society can’t easily be rolled back so its the “least worst” option – I would rather see this to give easier access to contraception (even if there was a slight health risk to people) than unwanted children being born.
