Yeah mate it’s nice to have somewhere to vent, but it’s a bonus that I get responses from people of all different age groups and walks of life too. I’m not used to opening up though, growing up in a family where the males are all alpha hard men.
I am laying off the drugs man, it’s almost 5 weeks since mephe and a week today since bud (not counting the half/quarter j from monday as it had backy in it too.. or am i cheating myself?) and honestly i don’t think it’s improved at all but i’m going to give it a while and quit caffeine now too since that definitely makes it worse.I already exercise a lot, eat healthily and drink a load of water (3-4 litres a day) so i don’t know what else I can do really.
You’re a young guy and you’ve been taking drugs for a good few years now. Excessive use of any drug will take its toll on anyone of any age, but the younger you start the more it will mess you up. At your age the brain and body are still developing and drug use can retard this development. Your going to be emotional in your teens anyway but add a few years of extravagant weekend partying to that and hey presto you have another depressed kid with no feelings of ambition. It’s sad that I’m only 24 but I’ve already seen this happen to more people than you could shake a stick at.
I doubt if I’ve said anything there that’s new to you but sometimes it can help to hear others say it. I recently found this to be the case with me as my manic depression has been going haywire, my girlfriend spoke up of how it was affecting her. It wasn’t anything I hadn’t already considered but to actually hear someone else say it for the first time made it really sink in.
Good news is I reckon you’ve opened your eyes early enough to turn it around. So good luck with the detox and if you ever want to chat you know where I am :group_hug

Yeah man that’s a fair point. To be honest i’m quitting all drugs until at least my birthday (March 30th) when i’ll probably have one night and then re assess if I even want to continue taking them or not since it would have been 2 months. Cheers for everything man, and likewise for you, don’t hesitate to drop me a PM or anything if you need a chat.
How did that meeting with your psychiatrist go btw mate? (If you don’t mind me asking)

This is probably the biggest reason why its harder to get EDM events licensed in “nicer” areas of East Anglia. as well as the short term good times there has been two generations of absolute fucking carnage caused by party drugs and this has been with harm reduction etc being available since the 1990s.

It’s sad that there is a stigma/bad reputation with the scene, but I suppose it was brought on by itself.
Are you familiar with Platipus Records?
Only vaguely heard of that label (though its gone bust once and been ressurected recently). Ironically in the late 90s I was more into “squat party” music like drum and bass and techno as I lived in Reading which then had a very big free party scene, and euphoric trance was in that area viewed as mainstream “townie” dance music as there was a lot of it even in the pop charts…
Yeah it died in 2010 and was reborn as Platipus Music in late 2011 I think. Platipus Records has a lot of pumping acid trance though, real good stuff, I don’t know if your into that sort of trance. Yeah there still is a massive DNB scene around here, pretty much every soundsystem is drum and bass based but some will occasionally play stuff like hard trance. I’d imagine that Reading still does have a huge free party scene (I know of a few people from Reading who are active in the scene) and probably still is drum and bass based..
I think there are more legal events in Reading these days, as all the main warehouse venues got rinsed a few years back (some of them must have been partied up to 4 times :laugh_at:)
Yeah a lot of it takes place in the surrounding areas now, for example quite a few go on near me (as you’ve seen from that matey that posted on the forum not to long ago, although that was shut down) and i don’t know if you know Camberley but it has quite a big scene too but again it’s drum and bass based. Not that I dislike drum and bass, I love it actually.
yep what usually happens is a poorer area gets targeted because the feds will be too busy dealing with townies until 02:00 and then closing down a rave means they need to put on another shift – although eventually they do find the money for the overtime budget when the same venues get rinsed over and over again…
It also seems like there is a correlation between big free party scenes and poorer areas, or is that just me looking at it wrong?
you are spot on, and it applies to tolerance of licensed EDM events as well in Britain. They are deliberately “ghettoised” to these areas because the people there are less likely to complain about drugs or noise and also if any other crime occurs its masked by the underlying crime levels. Even Holland does this to an extent but what they do is put noisier events in areas which are otherwise hard to use due to risk of flooding or industrial estate units no one wants to hire.
Ahh I thought this would be the case, it’s funny how it’s all systematically done yet is underground..
Personally I don’t see the problem with partying in unused warehouses so long as they are safe, kept clean and undamaged. Then again I may be biased 😉
Even TVP tolerated it to some extent provided the venues didn’t get totally trashed. in other European countries its way easier and cheaper to get an event license so there isn’t as much of a need to do illegal events…
Ahh TVP are infamous now, I don’t know if they used to be, but they’re ruthless. It’s funny how if the licensing laws were changed things would be so different.

I mentioned this on the Crowthorne party thread but TVP can be quite variable, they also judge folk on how they conduct themselves elsewhere (i.e if they are involved in other crime).
Their officers and detectives are smarter than people give them credit for, A lot of ex-IT workers joined the constabulary during the last recession and the securiity concerns following terrorist attacks in the USA and UK in the 2000s. Even in the 1980s they were routinely exchanging data between high schools and the Police so if you had a rep in school for being a trouble maker te cops already knew to look out for you.
Also your own friends might laugh and joke about being arrested for drugs, but keep quiet about getting nicked for robbing a house or giving their girlfriend a slap because even most party folk think that is wrong, whereas the Police obviously know who has been nicked for that sort of thing.
To some extent british licensing laws have been changed to bring them in line with other EU nations (you can get a license to do a rave for £25) but it takes team effort and consensus to organise one safely and properly and this is what British people often lack.
