initially seems a bit random that the prof who is from my parents generation and has done a shit ton of work for the Pentagon/NSA etc is in fact writing a book which has very little to do with tech and comes across like a cross between something 1970s era hippies often wrote about striving for world peace and articles on aletiea (US Catholic website which has suddenly shifted way to the left in the last few months, to the point its better than many other “liberal” sites) but with the way the world is going what he is doing does make perfect sense.
Its does seem a bit surreal to see all sorts of retired US military folk praising the book but then again from my millitary history research I’ve often encountered many people who are big time leftie / pacifist types especially those who were involved in Cold War surveillance or paramiltary operations, though its not suprising when you realise how close things got to full on atomic war as recently as the 1980s.
Whether or not my generation and those younger will take any more notice of what the prof is saying (which makes perfect sense) than we did of our parents in the 1980s is another matter entirely…
He sounds quite different to Whitfield Diffie IMO, Diffie was never actually a full professor anywhere.
