  • hello peeps,

Nonny here, working in Karlovy Vary in the lovely Czech Republic.

Czech Tek is happening here again this year, only about ten miles from me, all free, all legal, all fun, all techno.

On the equivalent of MOD land near Ostrov in West Bohemia with full permission and licenses or so my techno loving students tell me.

28th July till whenever in August.

Would love to see ya all here but me an Prole are doing a flipping summer school in flipping Suffolk all July… doh!

    Nonny

will post updates as i hear ’em

    xxx

Thanks for this. Please post as much info as possible – both good and bad news; including anything such as permitted routes, any limitations on numbers, whether there will be on-site Police presence (i.e like FRtek this year)

2005 was supposed to be “free, legal and fun”; the organisers had legaly rented the field, but the cops still rinsed it and the wider CZ population (or at least the richer half) seemed to accept this level of brutality (weren’t all charges against cops dropped after the fuss had blown over?)

That said ISTR reading new laws were passed which were quite lenient compared to Britain or other countries and basically permitted quite large raves; and perhaps the people of CZ are pragmatic enough to realise the scene won’t go away..

unlucky; some areas here remind me even more of the USSR in its last days than Reading did.

out of curiosity what’s this all about? teaching new Euro-workers English or something like that?

hello, im travelling Europe in July and im hoping to get to either Czech tek or Poltek. Is it Horni Ostrov not far from Prague? We wont have a car so will it be hard gettin to the tek?
    cheers

    hello it’s Nonny again,
couple of websites up.. bits in english

re last year’s czechtek… we teach general English to all sorts of people here from high skool studes to millionaire golf club owners. Please don’t believe what u hear about the public reaction here to the brutal policing of last years event… just because politicians connived to let the police off, the police they ordered in… all our students and friends here from every section of Czech society are really really unhappy about what went down. They’re looking forward to a better tek this summer. techno parties aren’t seen as a threat by any “ordinary” people here except Paroubek the slimy perma tanned prime minister who’s probably going to be voted out on June 4th …

as far as we know it is in West Bohemia not far from the German border, east of Karlovy Vary which is a well known spa town where we live, near the small town of Ostrov on the Ohre river. There are plenty of coaches going to Karlovy Vary from Prague, try the Letuska bus that goes via Prague airport. U can train or bus it to Ostrov from KV.

    Will keep u posted

    love

Thanks for this… hope it all goes well this year…

I like the big warning note at the bottom

    DO NOT EXPLORE MILITARY AREA

Although it seems obvious to sober people; ravers do like to explore stuff.

People don’t realise how fragile Europe’s stability is and how the Cold War is still being fought to an extent; and that those on guard duty at military bases are taught to be wary of strangers. Often guard duty is done by some frightened lad in his teens who has a loaded pistol or rifle…

there is also plenty of UXO[1] in such places (some poor bastard is supposed to pick it up afterwards but it doesn’t always happen).

    [1] UXO = unexploded ordnance

does any one know anything about bulgaria tek end of august some time
