As far as the coffee shops go it may seem weird but thanks to the US the entire world is signed up to a UN treaty banning everything and meaning countries could not opt out or change their own laws.

Which is ironic really because America is probably closer to at least changing it’s cannabis laws soon.

That UN treaty was an improvement of the Single Convention on Narcotics Act which was an improvement of the Paris Convention (Convention for Limiting the Manufacture and Regulating the Distribution of Narcotic Drugs) which was ratified by the Swiss, and the Convention on Psychotropic Substances which was the Austrians. That wasn’t us. Our CSA was amended to comply with the United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in the 90’s.

I thought you kicked it all off after LSD pissed the government off. Thanks for the info RaD, I obviously don’t know much about this but I’ll have a gander at those points you made bud.

Yeah, I think LSD was what pushed the gov’t over the edge.

They banned all medical research and use and gave it to the military. Think they realised the only soldiers they were disabling were the 1s they tested it on who just wanted to get the fuck out of the army after taking it.

    Once again, American logic :).
If that experimentation stuff interests you, this is a good read:
Edgewood Arsenal human experiments – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
“About 260 subjects were experimentally exposed to various psychochemicals including phencyclidine (PCP), and 10 related synthetic analogs of the active ingredient of cannabis (NRC 1984). The NRC report also mentions human experiments involving exposure of 741 soldiers to LSD (NRC 1984+)”

Thank you very much RaD, I hadn’t heard of that.

De-criminalisation? I happen to live in Oregon, so my first taste of legal weed is not far away. I NEVER thought this would happen, not in my lifetime especially. I will truly be a little happier just because of this. Maybe there is a God after all!

    Portugal all the way!

It is actually awesome that countries are stepping up and de-criminalizing drugs. I will definitely visit this country now. X)
