Just saw this on another forum I post on. However, I think the general tone of people’s thoughts Is different there. I wanted to do a small test for myself, and to see what you lot thought too, and have an intelligent discussion. Which I dont think Id have on the other forum 😉 Dont get me wrong, there are some clever folk over there, but generally not.
Anyway, they posted a Petition for the Death Penalty to be brought back as an option for punishment.
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/DeathPenalty2007/
Personally I don’t think so. The point the petiton starter Is making, Is that people aren’t scared of the law anymore. It may be true within some crimes, but no crime really deserves death. I would say there are not many sane people who commit horrific crimes. With this being said, a fucked up mind does not warrant their death as punishment. I think everyone deserves a chance at least, of redemption.
I also think most murders of innocent people are acts of passion, with the one’s that aren’t being acts of insanity. Passion being the irrational cloak that covers a person’s mind to enable them to take such actions. Insanity being unable to think like everyone else.
There are exceptions to the above, but I think that covers the most common murders.
Anyway, to the original point, you cannot show me many people anywhere who would see a life sentence a consequence they could live with in return of them being able to murder a person. No one In the right mind would give that. This leaves me to believe that people who commit those crimes, are not in the right mind, or thinking of consequence, so It is irrelevant of the punishment.
What do you lot think ?
fuck that! though i recon peados should be shot.
There are many valid points made in favour of the death penalty. But one thing always keeps me saying no to this.
That is that people are often wrongly convicted, or maybe evidence materialises years later, proving innocence or mitigating circumstances.
And death is something that can’t usually be reversed, once someone is killed (legally or otherwise) you can’t bring them back!
And besides, my mum always says – two wrongs don’t make a right 😉
what gives anyone the right to take another persons life,
word, so you didnt do what society told you, this world is fucked, were born into prison no death penelty or all death penelty
Theres a few problems with the death penalty….
1. Its totally hypocritical and in essence is murder….I mean does a murderer get off in court for saying “he had it coming”/”he deserved it”
Nope its still murder.
2. It is impossible to be 100% sure in a lot of cases as to the guilt of a suspect. Thusly there is a risk of putting someoe t death that didn’t deserve it.
3. Finanially its just silly. A death penalty case must be so thorough in order to minimise the risk of what I mentioned above that it actually costs more money to run the trial to completion and carry out the execution than it does to keep someone in jail for life.
4) Also the states without the death penalty in the USA have had a consistently lower murder rate than those with.
I am totally against the whole idea of capital punishment….I mean what sounds like a worse punishment to you anyway:
A) Being “humanely killed”
or
B) Rotting in jail for 70 years with minimal contact with the outside world.
FN.
facts on finances can be found here
also the murder rates are here http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/article.php?did=168
also the lethal injection can be far from humane…
“Prisoners executed by lethal injection in the US may have experienced awareness and unnecessary suffering because they were not properly sedated, concluded a research letter in last week’s issue of The Lancet. The authors believe the use of lethal injection should cease in order to prevent unnecessary cruelty and a public review into anaesthesia procedures during executions is necessary”.
I’d send prisoners to an island that they can’t escape from. Sort of like the film ‘No Escape’. Only high grade prisoners would be sent there as well. Problem solved.
or austrailia
Nah Australia’s been done. How about the falklands?
I dont agree with capital punishment,
think El covered all the points I’d make so wont repeat
The UK & Ireland I feel a prisoner here already.
Can’t be that bad is it mate?
