Just a quick message here guys to share a thought. Should America decide to sentence Saddam to death, what’s the odds that HBO will make it a pay per view event?
And Q Mike Buffer; ‘Laaaadies and gentleman, the moment you’ve all been waiting for. The main event of the evening: The hanging of Saddam….’
deaths the easy way out for him, given the choice he’d probably want a quick end so let the —- suffer keep him locked up,take away his privalages
Well they have killed him

not sure it makes anything any better 🙁
I think the current Iraqi “Government” (who would obviously have been hand-picked from people friendly to Washington and London) obviously wanted rid of him quickly whilst there are still sufficient occupation forces in place to help deal with any ensuing serious civil conflict as a result of the execution (and as others have said, to silence him before he exposed too many other murky deals of the 1980s).
Sadly, I suspect that the occupation troops may well be withdrawn next year not out of moral grounds but because the expected Western economic gains have not been delivered.
The West (including non-participant nations) clearly hoped that the Iraqi people would be swiftly cowed by the level of foreign military force deployed in 2003; and would willingly hand over control of the infrastructure and oil reserves to the various corporates who were funding the war.
This has not happened due to an (unsurprising!) high level of insurgency and now the war is costing loads of money to UK, US and European countries as well as destroying international relations without delivering any cheap oil or wider power in the Middle East.
I reckon this battle is lost; and occupation troops may quietly withdraw; leaving Iraq as a divided nation and its people to suffer further.
But if the World is not careful World War III (already started IMO -except its between loosely defined groups rather than nation states) will escalate soon.
while im not sorry that a mass-murderer is dead, im enraged that he was killed with no moral highground over him and especially that the information he held has gone forever too. RIP truth about the 80’s. As for the conflict, im at a loss. when we were going in, i said “dont” when we went in i said “leave” when we were entrenched i said “let the iraqis run their own country”. no-one of any power listened to me, or teh millions who said the same. now we have destroyed teh country, drove its inhabitants mad with horror, and created the nearest thing to hell on earth i have been aware of in my lifetime. i dont have any suggestions any more. its too far gone.
Death sentences are barbaric. Full stop, new sentence….
While I too find it hard to be sorry Saddam is gone, that doesn’t change the barbarity of taking anothers life (wether it be in the cause of justice, morals or whatever…)
Problem is, the worst thing evil-doers do to others is make others more like themselves….
Yes, it is true Saddam wouldn’t think twice about death sentences. BUT – is his example the one we wish to follow?
His legacy of hatred, and mis-trust is what will have to be dealt with, and now that the bell has rung, and the witch is dead, it will have to be faced (which is probably the only good that can come out of his execution).
Eye for an eye, and the world will go blind….
