there might be a limit like for driving, I am not 100% sure. I know that in the 90s any form of railway work had mandatory drug/alcohol testing (mind you a lot of train drivers in the 80s were pissed on the job, one of the nutters from my high school joined BR and drove 125s from Bristol to Paddington and he used to take in a pack of beer at the start of his shift!)

You’re right GL, the rail can be real strict on these issues. I asked my tutor how often he was tested and and said approximately 4 or 5 times in the last 10 years. Whilst it’s not much, there is a no tollerence to it – if you test positive then wave goodbye to your career 😥
