Breaking news,
The father and mother of six children killed in a house fire were this morning arrested on suspicion of their murder.
In a dramatic development, Mick Philpott, 55, and his wife Mairead, 31, are in custody being questioned by detectives about the horrific blaze.
Just two weeks ago the couple, both from Derby, wept uncontrollably at an emotional press conference as officers described how petrol had been poured through the family’s letterbox and set alight.
I say innocent until proven guilty is the law of the UK
I really was so upset to hear of a family loosing so many children, I guess its bad enough to loose one child let a lone 6.
If they are guilty they have to live with this for the rest of their lives, if someone else is so do they,
horrific
this is why Arson gets one of the worst penalties going

Also because our country has some of the the strongest laws controlling guns and firearms even by EU standards, so its the most common weapon used to settle disputes by those who in other lands would have gone to their gun cupboard. And like the use of guns and IEDs made from ammunition (which is even harder to get than guns in the UK), its not always intended to hurt or kill directly but to damage morale by causing fear and destroying a business.
as an example, about half the businesses shown in TOWIE have been burned out at least once.
I know about this but I certainly don’t watch TOWIE, I do read Essex Fire and Rescue website. Thats how common it is in this area and it goes back centuries to employer/employee disputes in the rural areas. A Northern chap on another forum said he was shocked by the incident counts in East Anglia. I’m not sure if they are that much worse than the North or that its simply usually too wet and cold to burn out a rural business there (more likely) and terraced houses usually mean folk aren’t heartless enough to risk the collateral damage of non targets going up too (its bad enough when accidents lead to blazes) but I am always advising management on risk points and how to avoid the place being torched by disgruntled staff (especially as I work late and alone at certain sites, so its my own safety to be aware of).
I can just imagine you sat down with a real ale watching TOWIE you lair 😛
It is also to do with the potential loss of life I think,
I know of people who have been really poorly (chronic schizophrenia) who have set fire to their homes for what ever reason (usually ‘voices’) and they may not have been ‘punished’ through the criminal justice system like someone well – but they end up on an acute admissions psych ward for up to 2 + years as no one inc supported housing will touch them due to risk, when you are ‘meant to be there til your illness if better’ usually a few weeks to 6 months TOPS
and also if you have arson you are also very unlikely to be given a placement in residential detox rehabilitation etc
I dont know much about those who are ‘well’ / ‘able to be fit’ for legal punishment but I’d guess it is the same ..

I only got a digital telly earlier this year and for obscure reasons to do with where I live (on the Suffolk / Essex border almost) and the Sudbury transmitter (same as that) and something being in the way it won’t pick up half the channels reliably, so I gave up on it other than to play out stuff from the computer and robbed the antenna cable off it for my scanner.
Essex FRS will however tell you details of every incident from a major blaze to a rescued cat. They are quick to retrieve these as last time when they waited a couple of days a big girl from Essex decided to try and get the cat herself, only to end up also stuck in the tree. So they ended up with two rescues rather than one. She actually said to the press it was worth being stuck up there to meet the firemen :laugh_at:

I think I’d do the same!! but only to rescue my baby bear!:love:
my lil Jasper just been in a fight I’d knock the other cat out if I could – and thats mainly because of the last vets bill when he got bit!!! He wont let me near him yet, so I cant figure out if he’s hurt yet…. :hopeless:
it was similar though in the last place I worked trying to get the girls out of the unit b4 putting their lippy on to ‘impress’ the firemen…….. :yakk:

one of the Norwich Green Party Councillors – a young chap too – torched his (multiple occupancy) flat after a mental breakdown, the Greens said he shouldn’t have gone to normal prison but Norwich and Peterborough aren’t that bad (met folk who’ve been in just for drugs an raves) and even though he realised what he had done and called nines it was a multiple occupancy building.
plus he had no previous of mental illness. it actually has stopped me fully joining up to the party as due to my own mental health over the years and working in competitive environments (and any job you enjoy will have others competing for it) I felt they might not have done as much as they could to spot the signs and still pushed him hard and that surely goes against what they stand for. its a difficult subject to raise with my local party members too as many must have known him, plus one fault of the Greens (not enough to stop me supporting them) is many of them do seem especially from middle class backgrounds do seem to have inherited this odd new age idea that not discussing bad news makes it “not happen” or “go away”.
This is bollocks which came from the consumerist USA (especially business) and has nothing to do with proper progressive / Green thinking or even wicca etc and is why the Yanks are in the financial and political mess they are in today, we shouldn’t be following it in our nation but that of the European greens who seem to do things a bit better…

it wasn’t even her cat! that said a chap from SE England got rescued by a random cat he’d previously befriended when his house caught alight due to an accident, the cat had a clear escape route yet woke the chap up before he ran off…

Ahhh!!!! so cute!!!
Jasper wouldnt do this – he has aspergers (diagnosed my the house mate! :P)
he is only friendly when he’s hungry!!
thats how the bloke befriended the random cat, he had been feeding it. though cats might not come across as faithful as dogs, they aren’t daft and seem to go to some trouble the world over to protect friendly humans who are food sources…

I remember that link GL!
I love my cat (so) much!
and i know he likes me only if its coz I feed him 😉
but i do get nips and cuddles in bed When Marcus is away,
however the double edged sword difficulty is my house mate has a first in experimental psychology….. and when me and Marcus go away, he is asked to feed him, He’s always done summat, the latest is 2 pouches of different wet food at a time x2 + a day, inc dry food, he tries to get him to ‘love him more’!
one of the other ones was making Jasper look at him and then give him a treat,
I’ve told him I’m gonna warn any prospective egg donors or IVf people if he tries to breed a child, I recon he’ll be like that psychologist who put his child in a box… cant think if his mane… Stringer or summat like that
(Ps sorry Log for hijacking a propper thread to talk about cats!)

So they have been remanded in custody after appearing in court yesterday, so they must have something on them then, or its another huge mistake.
Just saying, for the record, it wasn’t me. OK? Having read the story I must admit temptation to cutting off the guys balls at an earlier stage in life, but that isn’t a realistic option.
Mind you, even if they didn’t do it, it’s quite a blow for them. That’s a lot of child benefit income lost. <- Cynic about big families
