In terms of the Thatcher thing. They only thing that I would be protesting is her taxpayer funded state funeral (at an estimated cost of ten million pounds).

pocket money for the UK though really. And people don’t mind when it costs similar amounts for their protests. *shrugs* ugh I am going back to bed today is a rubbish day.

Who is worse? Someone who stands up for the convictions for what they believe to be for the benefit of our country overall but who gets it all wrong? Or someone who openly celebrates and throws parties because someone’s Mother has died? How would you feel if it was YOUR Mother? Even if you didn’t agree with the things she did it would surely cut you deep.
That is exactly why they are doing it. Why do you think anyone who is notable or prominent or has done well in life genuinely needs a shit ton of security procedures to protect them when they are alive?
I am sure there are folk who would be glad to see the back of me simply because I’m perceived to have done “better than them” in life by hard work (and I am by no means a conservative nor particularly famous), indeed I know that on the rare occasions I go out in town I have to watch my back. I don’t even have that many enemies compared to Thatcho but just one person with a knife can finish you off if they are determined and you are off guard. At least I don’t do urban events so guns are less of a risk.
And they were doing that in this area when the penalty for murder was hanging, the offenders would go to the gallows unrepentant.
in the UK we do actually celebrate the capture, torture and execution of suspected terrorists every 5th November, but because the incident happened centuries ago and they were on the losing side its not seen as bad or irrational to do so.

much of this is cost of security procedures. Even if we elected a ambitious young Green Party PM in 2015 and she somehow got knocked off her bicycle and killed whilst riding in London there would still be people celebrating her death, whinging about the policing costs and her funeral would still require that amount of money spent on metpol and probably MI5 and the Army too to stop it kicking off. Thats how bitterly divided this country is.

Ding Dong the witch is dead, the witch is dead. Ding Dong… :))
Three reasons among many not to like thatcher…
UK income gap ‘same as in 1991’
Mark Thatcher’s return to the spotlight
Thatcher stands by Pinochet

Not really – censoring the track (which is what would have happened in the 1980s) would have actually made it even more likely to gain publicity.
Auntie have only recently learned a hard lesson themselves about not covering up bad news when it related to the malpractice of one of their own deceased employees. They are doing the right thing, by getting a Newsround reporter to explain why this record charted, and hopefully encourage some of the youngsters to look into the wider debate of why a democratically elected leader divided a modern European country so deeply.
Anyway, the Germans as usual waited for us to make all the mistakes, learned from them, and have invented a more compact and efficient Leaderene.
I’m not sure they will play it…

I’ve not listened to a chart show for over 20 years but from what I remember not all the tracks would get played – so they could well decide not to play it in a chart show (or temporarily mark it on playout as “only for post 20:00 TX”) but they cannot hide the fact it has risen so highly in the charts.
In any case its the duty of our national broadcaster to educate younger folk on why this is happening. Particularly as the short term gains she made have evaporated and in Northern Europe we are at strong risk of ending up in as bad a state as the 1980s and Southern Europe could well even go to actual warfare.
Well as much as I disliked her (in fact more than many torys) I am a bit ashamed to see people celebrating someones death. Fair enough if she was a mass murder but she wasn’t now was she. Was was basically a good person with decent morals but was blinded by the upper class way of life which made her make decisions that affected so many poorer class people.
So when I see people on the TV celebrating and all that, it makes me think that we are a bunch of animals.

This is a very odd thing to see on the news by our perception of “Britishness” or being “modern Europeans” but when I watch the international news I am always seeing folk in other countries celebrating the death and defeat of enemies and firing their guns to the air, not just dead politicians but civillians just like them. Even the Americans often celebrate in this manner from what I remember.
Perhaps it should be a reminder as to how fragile our concept of “civil society” actually is.

I don’t wish anyone dead but I do believe in justice. I’m pro the death sentence from a view of pragmatism in cases where guilt is proven absolutely and where these people are a danger to society, but I certainly wouldn’t have a party over someone’s execution and anyone who would is not far from being that which they are condemning in my opinion.
Just saying.
Funnily enough that’s one of the reasons why I’m against the death penalty. It promotes “revenge justice” culture which I think is unhealthy, but that is neither here nor there.
On the one hand I think you can’t really stop people from celebrating someone’s death, especially a controversial figure like Thatcher. I don’t agree with people doing it, but I also don’t begrudge them.
However it seems to me that a lot of people doing the celebrating are young folk who probably never really studied what she did ands its effects, much less lived through it. I think there is this culture of creating caricatures of politicians and simplifying them down to “bad” or “good.” In this country especially there is an extreme lack of attention to nuances, moreso than any other country I’ve lived in except maybe the States. People don’t seem to understand that you can’t just lump a politician into “good” or “bad” because even downright evil people such as Stalin implemented measures that helped their country (in fact it could easily be argued that the War would have been lost without them.)
It’s much more complicated than people on either side tend to make it.
