  • found this on my old photos – from my work about 10 years ago, we made this new piece of kit and sent it to Danmarks Radio (the national broadcaster of Denmark). unfortunately, there was a short circuit on the high current PSU:

    the circuit board

    note attached to it.

apparently it filled the comms room with thick smoke, set off all the bells and there was a full scale alert, they thought there was a terrorist bomb or arson attack but it was just the British electronics industry at work…

    UPS lol

    nice :laugh_at:

TBH looking back on it we sent out some horrendously flaky kit. We sent similar ones to Germany as well, and the engineers said “I plug this in, and BAM! the whole workshop ist now in dark.” (this of course is much more of an annoyance in mainland Europe as they have no plug top fuse and so the whole 16A breaker trips”.

also the circuit boards didn’t like heat and humidity (as found in Alabama), we knocked out half of EWTN, the nuns prayed for me when I fast tracked them a circuit board even when on compassionate leave as my Dad had passed away.

When the stuff it worked it was good but the yanks took over the company just before I started and introduced “cost cutting” exercises (especially with PSU design, bad idea) and totally destroyed it (some of the British managers didn’t help). Turned from a dream job to nightmare in just 3 years, Last I heard it had been taken over by its competitor from North Europe, I think its owned by Germans and Scandinavians 😉
