hitler refined the 10 step model of closing down a free democratic society and replacing it with a dictatorship. many dictators have since carried out equally appalling genocide… he refined the technique that mussolini devised
and yes, on a much bigger scale
as to the school curriculum.. i did a social and economic history gcse so i was taught nothing about the second world war at school
yeah
anyone read Iain banks ‘Dead Air’? I liked the way he dealt with the whole ‘Holocaust was an invention’ madness, beautifully done

i didnt know that
interestin that you didnt get taught it at school, c this is what i mean . . . how can people be aware of things that they dont get taught? (there’s that triangle thing – cant remember the name but teaches you how to find out about stuff you had no idea existed – badly put i know but . . .)

people should learn more for themselfs anyway instead of blindly accepting what there told, i was taught that drugs and late nights were bad at school i think the girl you were tyalking to who said” he killed some jews or somthing” is completly to blame for her stupidity and should be shot
it did make me wonder . . .
an yes i agree kids should be taught to think and question, but thats very dangerous for authority
it is indeed very shocking that a 19 year old person didn’t know what the holocaust was. the answer she gave would be acceptable for a 10 year old maybe.:you_crazy
It is very important that future generations don’t forget what happened. this is a cliché, but in this case appropriate.
The Holocaust and the Nazi system opened the world’s eyes and consciences for how horrible humans can be. The positivism and scientism of the 18th/19th century had lead to the belief of the greatness of human kind, the power of reason and the certainty to always progress. The WWI kind of shook these foundations by revealing the devastating consequences of greedy imperialism. Then WWII and the Holocaust was more than anyone could take. It showed the ever present possibility for evil or good, but in this case evil. that’s i think, one of the learnings that could be kept, looking at it as a symbol and reality, and actually use it as a start place to look for other problems (previous and posterior) and thus be aware of the kind of world we live in.

true.
i got some real air photos of Spitfires in battle, anyone wana see?
she was a university student, she was very nice but she really wasnt sure what the nazis had done
I found this really surprising, i had thought that everyone knew what happened
it made me think, i’m not knocking her (schools teach what they teach)
I’m just wondering if its a common attitude or perhaps a generational thing (i’m old enough to be her mum) and World War 2 is slipping out of living memory now, my grandad fought in the war but she may not have any family history you know?
so is it a usual attitude or is it unusual, i’d be interested to know?
i’m 22 and know alot of what happened ..but that is cos i have jewish roots on my dads side so he is allways tellnig me stuff about it .. can’t remeber being told that much about it in school tbh
This is very common for people in North/East London/Essex as its long been sanctuary for the Jewish community in Britain..
My parents told me a lot about British imperialism and the problems it caused in their country and also the invasion of the Japanese (the British ran away and let Malaysia be overrun!)
my dad was born under Japanese occupation (which may be why as a teenager he wanted to join the military, had a lot of respect for weapons, uniforms and authority and probably would have done so had he not met my mum and moved to England)
well i thought me spitfire pics were good. there sold anyway 😉
they were cool-liked the menu esp!:bounce_fl
