    they only smell if you dont look after them properly and dry them out properly after they got wet.

    Starlaugh..you need a few inches of hair to dread as theres an inch of undreaded hair at the roots..I put all my hair in hair wraps using embroidery thread to begin with, stopped washing with normal shampoo and they started dreading after a few months. You do need a lot of patience though cos your scalp will probably itch but theres a lot of products out there to combat that. A good website to check out is;

    Yeah i have looked at that site cheers Cath, I think i need a few more inches of hair yet… well i will grow a few more anyway… ( i was also looking at the back-combing method)

      you would have loving me then …I had dreads down to my bum…but the hardcore-old-dog-smelly specie,you know,those with life inside : )…

      It was a re-discovery of life the day I cut them:sun heath or rain on my skull ,huge vision angle,social invisibility and a sexual life out of the crusty/techno/squatt clan…it was magic !

      I feel them again sometimes,scratching my back…

      im sorry lee, but u never asked for my opinion but im gonna give it anyway, i dont think u will look good with long dreads, u may look good with short ones. i was thinking about getting them but i realised i would look ridiculous with them, now everytime i see someone with them i yurn for them

      There are different techniques of dreading. I put mine in wraps, wrapped embroidery thread round each section of hair and just left them to form over several months then took the thread off to re do the wraps until eventually they were fully dreaded. Took a few years to get them fully dreaded up though. I started with very long hair so took longer than it would have for shorter hair.

      Btw which Sheffield party did you go to? Lol!
