  • I don’t drive at the moment but am planning to do so in the next two years; (more for work than leisure TBH, I don’t even like cars and car culture all that much any more) [1] and in doing so I’ve realised how fucking expensive the whole malarkey is.

I reckon most people invest a good few hundred quid just to get their license; then you get your car and insurance, MOT, VED (tax) etc…. several grand spent…

But driving to raves nowadays seems to involve a 100-200 mile round trip as a lot of more local venues have been caned and the cops no longer let events happen; must be quite hard on your car especially driving up tracks etc…

Worse still, new laws seem to mean you could potentially lose your driving license for being involved with illegal raves- not seen a test case yet but the law is there apparently)…

Petrol is far from cheap either, and a lot of ravers don’t always seem to be able to find petrol money.

I’m increasingly finding the journeys to raves quite stressful just as a passenger; especially on the way back when everyone is tired/on a comedown etc….

OK I know there are people about who love driving (most of them seem to drive rig vans and have jobs like mechanic, courier etc) – fair play to them but I’ve also got the impression from posts on messageboards and peoples chat at raves that a lot of the drivers are taken for granted (i.e its difficult to get petrol money) and that some are less inclined to drive to increasingly distant raves and even if they do the “hidden costs” are worrying them (there’s a nasty trend of vandalism and theft to cars at raves as well)

So what do the drivers think?

[1] coming from someone who was well on his way to being a full on gary boy had he passed his test at the first attempt.

im not a driver myself, cant afford the lessons & test let alone a car, mot & ect my gf has recently passed her test an become my new driver, and is adapting to the cumdown drives well

the mate that first goit me into ravin was my first driver, me an him went out as far as we had to every week, he’d drive an only do sum chang an a beer or 2, id find the parties, navagate pay for petty (which was easy with my situation back then)
the back seats of the car were first come first serve with an passengers had to make a donation to the petty, which just made it cheaper for me, he loved ravin an drivin (which was lucky) an is now at uni becoming a mechanic

when he left i was left without a lift, which was well annoying as i was finding out about all these parties an cudnt get there

after a month or so i blagged one of my mates older brother to drive us to a party, he loved it an wanted to drive when ever he could, unfortuatley he wasnt as bigger fan of the long drives an would prefer to go a lil local ting, instead of a huge multi rig which was a sad change

now my gf’s driving, although she aint got a car, she can borrow her mums or get insured on a friends car (who doesnt have a licence) for £16 a week:weee: which is prime,

we’ve been stopped & tailed (all the way through louton) by the old bill an the’ve never done more than write down a number plate an check the insurance details, to us so the ob are not to threatnin in our view

i need a car, but then i will spend my whole weeks wage every weekend an do some ridiculous amount of miles,

but all the drivers i know make a lil £ from going to parties so they dont complain
