that is wrong on so many levels and shows a even bleaker picture..
Firstly it rubbishes any claim from the company that the drugs tests were genuinely for safety reasons.
Most likely they were only there because the end customer (probably based in a country where they were more common) insisted on them as a condition of sale and the company obeyed to win the contract. Secondly, corners are normally cut when there are time / budget pressures – and yet the budget is there for the drugs tests but not to do the job safely.
This shows the priorities of the businesses involved.
another caveat is even decriminalisation/legalisation won’t remove a culture of drugs testing and may even increase it.
A while back a young woman from Portgual who used to post here told us (just months after PT had decriminalised) that her parents would only fund her University education on the condition she had drugs tests every so often. There rationale was they were making sacrifices to fund it and didn’t want to risk the investment.
She stopped using PV soon afterwards, so as far as I can tell she complied with her parents requests, she wanted to get ahead in life and was very intelligent (for instance her English was perfect). She wasn’t a little girl either, but in her 20s. (it appears that like in Asian nations, family ties and good family relations are very important in Portgual – and education always counts..)
