most riot cops have stood down and stopped fighting the protestors (although some are still continuing to obey orders) – in many areas everyone has gone to mosques or is praying in the street as Friday prayer is now called (Friday is the big prayer day for Muslims).
They’ve set fire to several police stations and a load of special forces and police vechicles. The special forces are out in droves now shooting people that were climbing on there tanks.
They’re firing tear gas into praying groups now. Lost’s of shots going off and explosions all over the place.
…they are really going hard for it, police stations on fire, police trucks on fire, ruling party headquarters on fire, muslim brotherhood is just a small part this, this is, as it looks, a peoples uprising, represented with wide spectre of oposistion and top of this is still unconfirmed clashes between army and police….curfew is just a laugh, no-one is there to impose it… Its gonna be long night….
it certainly looks like the civillian police have sided with the protestors, the exact stance of the army is unclear.
The bulk of Egypts population are Muslim, so any new régime is going to be in line with Islamic values (otherwise they would not have stopped their protest for Friday prayers!), although they may in fact be much more moderate than the previous one (it appears the Muslims and Christians are supporting each other in the protests, whereas previously they have been enemys).
…looks like the army is doing jack shit…top figures been reported fleeing egypt….
Hi All ,
To be fair if they are setting fire to police stations etc , thats not peaceful and you think the police are gonna sit back and take it . I always try to put myself in the oppositions shoes , try thinking im a police officer and we are being mobbed by loads of people setting fire to things …..you dont think you wouldn’t react like wise . It dont matter who you are we are all human , if some one was setting fire to your home your street etc ….would you just let it happen ?

The Police aren’t in the police stations any more, they have abandoned them… its not like British bobbies where they all get paid on time and have nice kit to play with (even if not always guns), some of the units themselves have (in previous years) rioted against the army due to poor conditions and pay!
earlier on in the day the cops stopped fighting the rioters and presumably have all gone back home to their families or whatever Egyptian cops do when they are off duty, which was why the army got called in
what is more worrying is the top businessmen quietly slipping away – often as they do so, they take the peoples money with them (this happened when Soviet Union crashed in the 1990s)
the coppers have a choice, as all humans should have, uniform or not…as it looks, some have joined the riots…
Hi !sinner69! ,
Yes that is true but what im saying is humans will meet violence with violence , its not pretty but that is our nature . If some one rattles you enough you will react . Ive seen it myself , and its usually only a a few in the crowd that influence every one else and all sense of reason is lost . Then it just descends into stupidity , and all sense of reason is lost .
Egypt might be for a whole lot of different reasons to stand up and revoult , but ive seen crowds of people in there hundreds go that way and have been on the receiving end . From stones thrown to being spat at to all the name under the sun , i didn’t react violent but i was only there for a short while , to be fair at the end i got them calling me mate . I would talk to them when it wasnt mad , i guess they saw me as a human being .
However i have seen and know enough of how people can become violent and become irrational ……it dont help any one .
just my take
