As only terrorists use encryption (even though this has been proven total bullshit after every recent attack), nobody should have privacy.
Encryption is ?essential tradecraft? of terrorists, FBI director says – Ars Technica UK
yet NSA, Ofcom/GCHQ/MI5/MI6 (UK), as well as Agentschap Telecom/A/MIVD (NL) and BNetzA/BND (DE) and local / national British constabularies all fully encourage the use of encryption in both civillian and public services systems.
I’ve deliberately mentioned for the European countries both the Communications Ministry and the “covert” Security Services as in Europe these and the cops work a lot closer together when required.
Encyption doesn’t defeat th laws of physics; metadata and the timing of radio signals or information travelling across cable and fibre optic can still be used to locate encrypted data- altso the use of crypto creates other delays and markers making it even easier to pick out!
USA is supposed to do that as well but there seems to be much pointless inter service rivalry, discrepancies in operational procedures between regions and incompatible technical standards/working procedures. Not a case of things “going dark” but those feds need to get out from the donut shop and walk down the street to the opticians and get some better spectacles….
