  • Nice little 2 day party on the beach there was about 50-60 people down there. Started about 4pm friday and went on untill 5am sunday morning. You couldn’t hear anything in levington or trimley but i was told by 2 people they could hear it across the river in shotley. No rubbish was left and the beach is now cleaner then before the bbq started :). Police came down a few times over friday night and then we didn’t see them for the rest of the weekend.

Trimley: End-of-term party at Loompit Lake sparks rave fears – News – Evening Star

To be fair I can see why the cops / papers etc thought it was something to do with end of term – I vaguely remember (it was 20 years ago!) around this time if you are in 6th form (or year 12/13 to the younger ones here) that formal lessons stop and you don’t have to attend high school/college until exams start.

So this is very often the last time a group of young people aged 17/18 might see one another before the stressful time of exams, and for this age group is a perfect time to celebrate – but of course that shouldn’t mean older people can’t join in the party – after all its probably way safer than folk going to Ipswich and drink/drug driving and/or getting into fights..

that said although I know this particular crowd is friendly and good natured, I can see why older residents are a bit wary of going up to a group of youths and asking them to turn the music down as there have been some nasty incidents in other areas of the UK. But if the numbers and sound level is kept sensible its not a massive nuisance to anyone…
