  • this is something that has been worrying me (and maybe others).

I have been monitoring the results of elections in many EU countries recently… particularly FR, NL, DK, DE, all countries geographically and socially close to Britain..

nearly all have had high turnouts but elected centre right candidates despite a history of progressive or at least centre-left government..

and you are seeing anything “alternative” being normalised/squashed if it doesn’t fit in with the market economy.. (ungdomshuset, frenchkek>>sarkotek, UK long term squats being evicted etc)

The problem is that it doesn’t seem at all like the doomsday scenario of a “descent into fascism” – at least yet..

perhaps more a “descent into mediocrity”; where the society ends up merely led my what I would call a “MittelEuropa” class, where people work hard but don’t really play at all and go to bed before 23:00 after only drinking 1 litre of beer maximum..

(it is worryingly like an “idealised” version of Britain a former Prime Minister John Major once made a speech about)..

but it worries me that so many people are making the decision to elect this sort of government and to ultimately accept this sort of society..

So what can us progressives do?
