I’m ex TV industry and couldn’t do it (not just top gear) without finding it a painful experience to watch (or wanting to sabotage some important bit of production equipment, bear in mind I know the equipment used in TV studios inside out :wink:)

I went to see Absolutely being recorded at LWT some years ago and it was interesting but you could sense how much anger , stress and tension was amongst the crew in what was supposed to be a comedy programme

whole TV industry is rotten to the core and on slow self-destruct IMO

The reason waiting lists are so long these days is there are very few studio based productions and only a few producers can afford to hire the big studios at LWT, BBC, Teddington or Granada what can have audiences in them, and most youth TV is now made on location or in smaller studios without large audience capacity.

loads of studios have been closed down and gutted (yes me and my mates did think about partying them but they still pay for rentaguards and remote CCTV circuits (not that expensive as all the comms lines are still there)

also when I watch telly silly things annoy me like seeing shots out of focus, duff sound etc because I know how much effort I used to put in to get equipment working and how the production quality has actually dropped…

the telly is only there for when my sister occasionally travels over and stays or when my mum visits (she isn’t in the UK much though these days)

Thinking of cancelling the license and using the telly just for a CCTV camera. I’m not worried about security but want to put a infra red camera in the garden at ground level to watch for animals, there are a few cats but I think there could be mice and other creatures like hedgehogs/foxes as well..

would make better viewing that 99% of the crap on the idiot box these days..
