Jesus said , “I am the Way the Truth and the Life……”
Just as British people tend to have smaller motor vehicles and (when sober at least) are not as loud and outspoken in public, our preachers of all faiths are similar.
I come from a Christian family myself and am fully aware of the drive that Christians have to preach, in fact earlier today I was helping my mum explain a travel itinerary to her friend who is the pastor of a local church in Malaysia, as for some reason the itinerary was completely in German which neither my mum nor the pastor speaks!
But in this country and elsewhere in Europe and Asia Christians do all the stuff like helping the poor etc and also do try and spread the gospel, but they also accept than some people do not want to be “saved/converted” at that present time, they are happy with either their existing faith or none at all.
If this happens, our preachers and followers of faith groups walk away and find other people who are more receptive to their message, or they will share faith group resources and increase awareness without constantly trying to argue and convert people.
As an example, there is a bicycle repair workshop in my town in a few days time. The guy from the church hall (who is obviously Christian) has provided the hall for the use of the cycling group.
now the people in this group are of varied faith backgrounds. Some are Christian, others are Muslim, some are Pagans and others follow no faith at all. But they will all assemble together, and work on their common ground of having an interest in bicycles – without the Christian guy trying to openly convert people because he is supplying the resources.
In the church hall there are posters and leaflets advertising the Christian faith, but it is left up to the individuals whether or not they nead to read them. for all you know someone might have had a near miss on the roads that day and decide that the Lord saved them from being knocked down, and decide to follow the Christian faith thereafter – but it is left as individual choice….

basically he’s saying if the preacher is unsuccessfull on first attempt, walk away….

I think this thread has actually been the most constructive upto, maybe because of the collective progression so far…
I am guilty of going overboard with this. I think sometimes I forget my own beliefs of respect, because It’s alot harder when you have to have tolerance over something you are passionate about. To me, and the way I think revolves so far away from organised religion. To me, the future will be brighter without it.
However, mostly everyone on this planet has the same ideology in a small way. We all want to get along more or less. We all go different ways about doing it though. In religion, followers maybe think too literal through what has been told (my theory here…). For example, in Christianity, there are alot of things one must do, alot which may seem to conflict with each other. Maybe even the test of it all is to find the perfect balance between these. Tolerance! This could even be the same with Atheists, most of whom who want to evolve within themselves and assist humanity in their own small way by developing their own Ideas and improving themselves.
The main goal similarity between these can be achieved by tolerance.
It should be important for religious to realise when their own beliefs and passion to convert, actually is hypocritical to what they might have been told by their deitys to carry out. When it causes arguments like this. If this can spark through some of the nicest, tamest people going, then there is no hopes for the low lifes out there! Just as the same is with Atheists. We want to achieve our own goals, but by creating this friction, it cannot really be achieved. Even if the main goal is to have no religion. These debates certainly don’t really get us anywhere!
I think sometimes Atheists are just as much to blame too. After all it might aswell be a religion. We have a strong passionate belief that we try and encourage sometimes in other people ect, and will argue till blue in the face to defend our corner! Much like alot of religious wars I suppose…
I don’t know… I doubt there is a perfect answer! It just occurred to me when I realised how peaceful this forum is until someone mentions religion.
Lastly though, I will jump off the fence for a second, I do believe that some of your posts instigate these Amy. Unless I am replying to something related, I never (afaik) add my beliefs such as this into a post, at least not in the way where I am forcing it onto people who are obviously not interested in it.
I do feel I have been quite hypocritical in most of my posts regarding this, but I hope Im finally getting to the point where I start to believe and stick to my own ramblings 🙂

I feel religions just a crutch for people who cant live life on their own. They feel the need for someone else to govern their life.
Unfortunately there is no hell and damnation to help the argument though!

WELL SAID!!!! :weee: YES – that is exactly right! I NEED GOD! I can’t do this on my own! (Specially today when I am so stressed out bc of homelife that I am just trying to not have a stroke). To me, being a Christian means I totally surrender my life to Christ!!!!
I have been tolerant of sin too long and it nearly killed me.
If you wish to see what my church is like (not ‘mine’ – the one I go to lol)
That’s all for me as far as debates/arguments go – I need to
1 – work at home/ make some money
2 – try to stay CALM
God doesn’t need anyone – He CHOSE to create man! But I sure do need Him!

There’s always Soddam & Gommorrah babe (I don’t know if I have spelt this right)..
but he seems to need our worship and praise, quite pathetic really…… he just wants everyone to lick his ass….. sounds human to me, nothing special about the guy AT ALL

FREE WILL FAIL
you should be in control of your own destiny, you’ve completely missed the point of the gift of sentience. God helps those who help themselves.
