I’ve also put a warning post about similar found in NL and BE but the Dutch ones actually had skull and crossbones on them (!)
On the Dutch drugs testing site is a warning about these, which led to a fatal overdose in ‘s hertogensbosch (Den Bosch) in south of NL.
there is also a warning that other different designs with this contamination may be around…
And this is why drugs should be de-criminalised!
grimey grimey

it would be very unlikely and ineffective to do it that way (even rats avoid poison bait once one has gone over), if someone really wanted to target drug users far more toxic chemicals are easily enough available from chemical suppliers and arouses less suspicion than using an already controlled amfetamine type stimulant as they often have more legitimate uses in the chemical industry. Silk Road has already been threatened in this manner – they claim to have averted it by charging sellers (although it surely would not stop a psychopath with money). TBH an attack on a music event of some sort where they might gather using more conventional weaponry is more likely and has happened in foreign lands and is only prevented in Western Europe because event management staff take precautions against such attacks.
The real reason this nasty stuff gets into pills is because its cheaper and easier to make than MDMA and to ban the precursor chemicals (which are similar to safrole but more easily found than from obscure trees) they would have to ban a lot of popular spices/flavouring in Asian cookery so that isn’t going to happen any time soon. Unfortunately it looks like even with great advances in science, the difference in effort and resources (and thus potential profit) required to synthesise the two different chemicals mean that it could remain a problem even if pills were legalised the world over, after all eating beef isn’t forbidden even by many religions (some folk might not eat any meat at all out of free choice) but how much horse ended up in Europe’s beef due to the economic recession? Also its not uncommon to get warnings of fake/contaminated booze in some parts of the UK and Europe. Much worse happens to food and drink in other nations if there isn’t some quality checking.
One of the victims is in NL where there is already a limited tolerance of MDMA use (though not even as much as cannabis) and test centres available. One thing I did notice was in the area where the fatal overdose happened, the nearest regional drugs testing centre had recently had its hours restricted due to austerity cutbacks at the local Council. Also it takes usually a week to test the pills but can be longer if they have a backlog. Especially people in their teens and 20s aren’t that good at delaying gratification (which is also why they get more often caught out by this stuff as it initially seams like a weak MDMA dose).
Of course if pills were legal in NL (or anywhere else) the local and national authorities could recover the cost of testing centres via taxation but that causes problems with the wider UN agreements.
Also those in power in a lot of Asian nations (who would in fact do very well from a legalised party drugs market as thats where the main chemicals come from) are paranoid of legalisation not because of religion or a backlash from the USA (they have as much power as the USA) but because in the early 20th century the British and Dutch encouraged drug use amongst the natives to colonise these countries, and this won’t be quickly forgotten or forgiven. The first tryout of “gedoogbeleid” was in what is now Indonesia but was then a Dutch colony… They are also concerned about whether drugs toleration will fuck up their youth to the point they aren’t seen as dependable and hardworking (though in reality the Asian kids are already taking a lot of drugs and still doing fine making MP3 players and computers for the whole world, they are smart enough to balance their partying and work)
