I think one of my all time faves has to be Apocalypse Now. They really don’t make them like that any more.

v for vendetta is all well and good until your fucked on ketamine and you see someone dressed as ‘V’, then the film doesnt seem like such an exciting prospect!

    Haha.
    Niiiiiice.

Hey for the Apocolypse Now fans, just want to make sure they’re rating the film in the proper context of a re-invention of Joseph Conrad’s classic tale Heart of Darkness.

I loved Apocolypse Now for many years before discovering the relationship with the book. Took it to a whole other level, of those that are great works of art intentionally based on a previous theme (sometimes re-imagined in a compeltely different medium), rather than those that are of an entirely new idea.

That might be an interesting thread – name your favorite work of art (movie, song, book or painting, etc.) that was based on something else?

Apocolypse Now and Heart of Darkness are one of those rare occasions when the film can stand alone on ts own merits.

I did prefer the book but then i often do

the exception to the rule i can think of is Do Androids Dream and Bladerunner, the film far exceeded the idea from which it was taken

    of metal sheep

i notice dr bunsen said it earlier man bites dog, proof that a budget is not needed to make a great film

Did you know Ridley Scott didn’t even read the book? He said he tried and he couldn’t get into it. He pointedly told Phillip K. Dick right to his face that the book was horribly written. I guess if you’re Ridley Scott you can do that.

Also he said Deckard was a replicant.
