i’ve been watching firefox getting heavier recently
it regularly uses in excess of 80,000k of my CPU
is that normal? it seems overweight
Partly it’ll be because since the 1.0 build you’ve not had to totally reinstall all the plugins every time it gets updated… Also web sites are getting heavier in terms of code and content that needs to run from your memory – the web is a lot faster in terms of bandwidth these days, and webmasters have responded by making sites that are far heavier and content rich. I have a pal who can’t get broadband yet, and uses a 56K modem – there are a lot of sites that he basically cannot access (PV takes so long to load that it logs him out before the forum index has loaded after he sends his login – our forum does the same)…
And remember that even though the tabs save you a load of the libraries for firefox, they still contain memory resident data for all the sites open (and AFAIK don’t get un-allocated memory space until the PC starts to run out, or firefox is closed and they are written to disk cache (unless you tell firefox to delete the cache at exit))…:crazy_dru
Try uninstalling all your plugs, and only re-installing the ones you really use though… Might not make a difference, but worth checking….
it’s getting worse and worse
it’s using 125,000k right now to use Partyvibe and Youtube
and 30,000 just to be open with no home page, nothing
